I have just upgraded my website EquiPortal - Equestrian Homepage to 1.3.2 from 1.2.x. My site heavily integrates with the forum so you may find it an interesting example.

I love this new version of PunBB!!!

Previously I had to change quite a bit of code in Punbb because of the way my site integrates with it. That's all changed now we have the extensions. I have been able to leave all the core code intact which means any future upgrades should be easy

I have replaced the index page all together to help newbies find the right place to post much easier, other changes I have made include:

Adding all the great standard plugins (+ Karma that I found after some digging)

Removed lots of fields from profile that my members never use.

Removed fields from poll and replaced with defaults to simplify the page.

Added photo uploading / inserting via Picnik.

Styled Karma extension to make it more self explanatory

Changed the native wording in the breadcrumbs

I also list hot topics from the forums on my homepage to draw in visitors

It's just so good to be able to tinker via extensions. If you haven't given them a try, you should take the time to learn about them.
