I've now also added YabbSE v1.5.5 to the list of converters. If someone want's to convert a forum, please try out this beta instead of using the converters from the download page. I've also fixed a bug where some people couldn't use the converter as they had special characters in the database-name.

As long as your forum have "valid email" rules from your old forum (SMF).
Its easy. Give the "big" announcement at your forum.

Just modified the "login.php", change some information or add more link explanation that will redirect
to Loss Password 

http://your-forum.com/login.php?action=forget

Your Member or User forum will follow the process.
And then, the important thing is "modifying" some parts like:
1. /lang/English/login.php
2. .................../mail_templates/activate_password.tpl
3. etc..

That what I did (a year ago) to convert thousands of my member forum from SMF into PunBB smile

Ideally, they're similar and everything will convert fine except for the passwords (because of differing auth schemes).

However, both ways I assume it's a lot of work and involves manual coding. With 1.3, we should have a set of extensions that come with the converter that allow for different password schemes to be converted.

Simply, check which hash (it's not encryption) PunBB uses (probably MD5), then add an extra field in SMF user database and edit its login script - whenever a user successfully logs in, save a new hash of his password together with his account name (you can save to a flat file, too). Let this run for two weeks (don't forget to clean sessions in SMF) and you will be able to transfer most user accounts.

I use this system with phpBB to sync it against ftp users database (different hash).
