ok, but i not understand this "In 2007 PunBB was sold to a commercial company" but punbb it's free?

Yes, PunBB is under GPL and is Free.
We are working on our about section now to explain everything to the community.

Most of the PunBB devs decided to fork, because THEY want to control which features are going to be implemented and which not.
