Topic: account activation

I have installed fancy stop spam but it does not show on the registration page at all.

This is a new V1.4 forum

I am therefore using the account activation by email.

Will this prevent spam registrations?

Thanks

Re: account activation

Fancy_stop_spam work in hidden mode. That its main feature.

Re: account activation

Thanks for being so quick to respond.

I had assumed that there were questions to answer.

so, is there a hidden honeypot that bots will fill in and genuine folk cannot see?

Re: account activation

Honeypot is one of many antispam methods used in fancy_stop_spam.
New version also use StopForumSpam service.

Re: account activation

OK,

I risk looking daft :0

I registered on the new forum and posted also with no outward sigh than any anti spam system was in place.

Is this how it should be?

I have put punstopbots in now and downgraded to 1.33.

If I have made an error in understanding I would rather go back to 1.4 and use fancy...

Thanks for your patience.

Re: account activation

How will activate new account here?

Re: account activation

Try to add custom question to your reg form, that will usually stop most of the automatic registrations. For the manual ones, try to use something like profile moderation (don't allow them to modify their profile only after 5 posts or don't let them post links unless they do an other action first).

adding custom question to your reg form, that will usually stop most of the automatic registrations indeed.
