Nice to see some of you understand what the desktop is actually meant for. I.e. temporary storage and easy access. Just like in life smile

Yes, but temporary is from when I format my hd to the next time I format the hd. It gets quite messy.

Do, or do not.

Re: Your desktop screenshots...

Sure do- http://www.digitalblasphemy.com/

Glad someone noted about formatting / reinstalling windows and the potential to lose the desktop. I also, when in windows world, put things on c:\ and ghost out boots (D:, E: and F: for now). Fresh restore is only minutes away, C is also always a 2GB FAT so I can get to it with boot disk/cd...On mac- everything important in non boot drive.

As for quick access, best thing for mac user is quicksilver, type command, first couple letters and can find anything fast. Also fruitmenu dynamic right click to get contents of a single folder keeps it all clean.

The look I have right there is about 2 weeks old and before that the only things I had on my desk top were shoercuts. the downloads and notes don't stay long cuz I delete them or move them. I use my desktop for easy access and like a transfer station. smile

Yes, cant trust C drive smile I too keep the data in D: only, and for easy access(after all desktop is for that only), I created the shortcut link to the D:\Desktop Directory, can access from Desktop.... can we have something like cronjob, or virtual copy, in standalone. so that we can keep one copy in someother folder as a backup?

I agree. I have a 20gb C: drive, which just runs Windows.
Everything else is on my D:\ (80gb internal), G:\(60gb external backup), or H:\ (removable pen-drive).
I run all my programs off of D:\. Even Firefox's bookmarks and profile info runs off of it.

So, if C:\ crashes, all I need to do is re-install windows and everything else will still run exactly as I left it...
Sans Photoshop - damn reg. reliance.

I said I used it for easy access and a transfer station. Like the stuff I use the most I have shortcuts on my desktop (like Dreamweaver, Notepad, Unreal Tornament etc.) The transfer part is where I save files to the desktop so I won't have to worry with it at the moment and will move w/etf I feel like it.

wink It is...

After using one, I've realized it's the only way to go.

Screenshot of my duel-screen using UltraMon:

Apps Displayed:

Y'z Dock -  Program Launcher
Winamp 5.08
Miranda IM 0.4 Stable
Notepad2

The reason it's nice is that I can doo stuff on one monitor (IM, music, notepad, etc...) while I have the browser window or something else open on the other monitor.

Yes, that is a pickle on the screen. tongue

Yeah, dual 19" LCD's  one Dell, and one Samsung.  Duals look much nicer when you have two of the same brand and model, otherwise you have problems getting the color settings to match for each.  For instance, the Dell is much brighter/cooler, and faster than my Samsung.  Even when I adjust the Samsung through the API, or via the buttons on the front of it, I can't get the colors to match exact.  At work, I am fortunate to have 2 dells, and the look awesome.  Its great to have when you use programs that have undockable menus/toolbars.  At work I use autocad and it increases my productivity tremendously.
