Topic: My first Firefox extension

Something that annoys me tremedously is pages with URLs that aren't links. This very simple extension allows you to select the URL text and right-click -> open it in a new tab.

https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/m … mp;id=1472

It removes any whitespace in the selected text so it should handle URLs that span over more than one line of text. It also replaces hxxp:// with http:// and opens the URL without sending any referrer info. Something that can be useful on certain sites wink

The extension should appear on Mozilla Update as soon as it has been approved.

Edit: Update the link to point to Mozilla Update. Thanks pogenwurst!

Re: My first Firefox extension

There are several other extensions that have similar functions, though not quite the same.

If it still hasn't been approved by the time I get around to testing it I'll approve it for you on UMO.

Re: My first Firefox extension

Yes, I tested one called textplain, but it had too much functionality and bloated up the popup.

Re: My first Firefox extension

Extension looks great (I especially like the icon)! I've approved it for you.

Now using this. *lol* Love the icon.

Thanks Rickard. wink

Re: My first Firefox extension

I just uploaded version 1.1 (awaiting approval) and in that version, I changed the icon to match the icon I made for this extension smile

Just one little tip - have long, DETAILED explanations that tell users EXACTLY what to do. A lot of people who get their extensions off of UMO are complete idiots and will flame you in the comments (as they already sort of have).

The smart people are over at TEM smile (oh wait, an Invision board, uggh!!).

Re: My first Firefox extension

pogenwurst. Thanks a bunch! Could you pop in on IRC a second?

Re: My first Firefox extension

One weird thing: When used in a frameset, the extension doesn't work, i.e. the menu text is Open "" and a blank page is opened?

Re: My first Firefox extension

Hmm, that's weird. Could you post a link to a website where I can duplicate the problem?

Re: My first Firefox extension

Thanks. I'll have a look at it tonight.

Re: My first Firefox extension

I've uploaded an updated version (1.1.1) that fixes the frameset problem. Should appear on Mozilla Update a few minutes after my man pogenwurst reads this smile

Re: My first Firefox extension

Yeah, mozilla update is a mess. Apparently, they're working on a new website. There are so many things that are broken right now. Such a great application and such a crappy extension website.
