Unfortunately no one can be told what PunBB is - you have to see it for yourself.

Besides moving punbb.org to punbb.informer.com, which I stated was a bad move, what caused the core programmers to decide to fork?
The reason I ask is simple, SoftDeluxe is looking like the ones that caused the split by requiring the core programmers to change PunBB to fit a corporation's interests. This has fueled the exodus of the community because they feel like their interests weren't looked after. You need to clarify this, so those of us sitting on the fence can make up our own minds.
Punbb site update ... what did you meant by that ...
I mean we are going to update PunBB site to reflect recent changes.
who are ur professional team included ...
could you show me thier names or usernames...
They are local Russian PHP-developers and have different level in speaking English. We do not require them to register here, so I do not watch their nicknames here :)
As I have already said we mostly work on extensions. I think our developers will have to take an active part in discussions as soon as their extensions will be published.
However, you are right and I suppose we will publish developers list (with couple of words about each person) on PunBB site update.
Any news about if it worked or not ? :)
Seems to be working with diffs in PunBB/FluxBB varnames there.

Anatoly,
Are you at liberty to tell us what extensions your professional team is working on?
???????.
Yup.
Here is the current list: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/viewto
18#p114418
We are watching for users' requests and taking them in account.
Also we are working on extension updates notification system (having a repository on PunBB-server side).
We thought of it as a part of PunBB core, but for all that it will possibly be an extension.
The whole PunBB site including SVN-repository will be updated in view of recent events.
Extensions will be published as soon as SVN will be ready for that.
And our extensions need some work to be PunBB and FluxBB cross-compatible (if possible).
?????? ?????????? :)
Hello, Nicolas.
did you contact foreign punbb communities to explain the punbb future?
for example, french community doesn't know how punbb project will become...
No, we have not contacted foreign PunBB communities yet.
PunBB development will go on in the same direction as earlier. PunBB 1.3 is coming.
We will update roadmap when 1.3 is released and will contact the communities then.
A number of PunBB key developers have decided to start their own fork of PunBB called FluxBB. We understand and respect the developers` decision to be independent and have a complete control over their "baby".
We reckon on fruitful cooperation with FluxBB community in further development of the core functionality so that to provide growth and compatibility of extensions by means of sharing the code. We suppose that such cooperation will let us create a unique synergy, in which the project's key core components and a set of extensions will be developed simultaneously by both the open-source community and the professional team of our company. In such a way, we hope to avoid problems of both pure company-driven and pure community-driven projects. This will let us achieve our aim in PunBB: creating a forum which is best in all respects.
However, FluxBB and PunBB will not be clone projects. They will differ in sets of extensions as well as in some functional and interface solutions, on which the teams may disagree. Thus, users will benefit as usual because they'll be able to choose whatever suits them best.
Finally, we would like to congratulate Rickard Andersson and wish him a happy marriage. We hope he will be able to set us on the right path if we fail to give his "baby" proper care (actually, he's now got two of them - PunBB and FluxBB).
Could you please post a list of planned official extensions for 1.3?
Thanks
We are currently working on these extensions:
Done:
- admin_add_user (one-click user creation)
- attachment (completely reworked 1.2 mod)
- easy_bbcode (based on Rick's mod)
- easy_poll (completely reworked 1.2 mod)
- extension_reinstaller (most useful for extension developer :))
- hook_navigator (extension developer tool)
- user_timezone (shows the difference between yours and users timezone)
Testing (almost ready):
- avatars_in_user_list
- easy_qoute (select text, click "quote")
- easy_log ("who changed my title?" :))
- hot_tags (topics are taggable now)
- post_draft
- topic_online_users (who is writing reply to this topic right now too?)
- e_mail_authorization
- max_visitors
In development:
- backup
- post_approval
- private_messaging
- statistics
- ajaxification
I suppose we'll put them all to SVN very soon.
Open Source is about openness, conveying to the community your goals, aspirations and day to day happenings. PunBB has a blog, which could have been used to convey SoftDeluxe's honest intentions from the start. This switching of domains should of been discussed here on this forum, gotten the user's opinions long beforehand. Keep in mind that PunBB is nothing without the community, the code has no value without it's dedicated users.
Yes, you are right.
We do not want to bring revolutionary changes to the PunBB world and we had no critical issues to discuss before. The community leader, Rickard, was the only person who gave ?official? comments on PunBB events for a long time. Now we are making steps, requiring direct communication with the community, so we start such a discussion here. We?ll think of blogging about this, thanks for the point.
The reason I got involved with PunBB four years back was that Rickard was open and honest with us. He returned our emails, he was a person you could touch and feel. I don't feel you Anatoly, I don't know who you are, what your intentions are or if you prefer beer over wine. There in lies the problem, why I've stayed away from this forum for so long, lack of communication.
I understand you and? feel free to mail us, or personally me :))
Yes, there is a problem that we are a corporation, not a guru-person like Rickard. And we should acknowledge that we don?t have enough experience of being ?open and honest? as a company, and no one of us can pretend to be such a leader as Rickard.
Yes, it is hard to tell us: ?Hey, fellow, do you have enough beer to code 1.3 in a month?? Seeing this, we?re starting to answer your questions here and we will try to be ?open and honest? enough.
We do know the great value of the community and we are looking for the ways of giving proper comments and feelings to you.
Telling more about our plans, we?d like PunBB to become the best forum engine in every respect, adding maximum of functionality, but for all that, keeping it ?fast and lightweight?. PunBB 1.3 extension system is what enables us to do this. That is where we put most of our resources now. And like it was said above, we have no other commercial plans of using PunBB, but cross-promotion in other of our services, that takes the rest (lesser part) of our resources.
PS: I prefer kvass rather than beer. Red wine from time to time.

Fixed.
Thanks. It is? Where? Does it still work with punbb.org or did the Trac environment move, too?
Old URLs work for updates for a while: http://punbb.org/update/?type=xml&v 1.3%20Beta
We are not planning to move *.punbb.org subdomains like http://dev.punbb.org or http://blog.punbb.org as yet.
Just btw, the automatic update checking fails now... ;)
Fixed.
Thanks.
Hi, all.
Yes, I work for ?the folks who own the PunBB project?.
No, we are not planning ?paid official extensions & support? or anything like that.
And yes, we are going to release all the further versions of PunBB core and extensions under GPL, in cooperation with the community. PunBB remains Free, nothing's going to be changed.
Although only old PunBB Team have taken part in discussions so far, we are attentively reading Forums and other sites concerning PunBB. Feedback from the community is the guideline for our strategy and has always influenced our decisions.
We are planning to have only one way of commercial use of PunBB (PunBB was bought having these plans in mind): it is cross-promotion and integration (of course using non-core-integrated optional extensions only) with other of our services like feed.informer.com. That is why we?ve moved punbb.org to punbb.informer.com. It is important for us to openly cross-promote our services among sites and not to deceive users regarding projects` affiliation. The strong opinion of company leaders is that our position is much more honest in relation to PunBB users, than well-known pseudo-independent ?.org? foundations, who actively promote internet-giants in their ?free, open-source and noncommercial? products.
We are going to publish a bunch of extensions soon and release 1.3 core in cooperation with the community.
I would suggest that the hook suggestion thread included a list of current hooks location.
This would be the all source codes in one post :)
