Thanks for the interesting side notes, but back to the topic now: smile

Does anyone have constructive opinons about the next incarnation of phpbb, and the direction the development of this board has taken?

Personally, I started out using forums on phpbb, but as soon as I started modding... well, you know. So the question is: How much of an improvement, if at all, is phpbb 3?

Thanks everybody in the devteam, this is what I always wanted! (Except for 1.3, of course)

When correcting fellow Swedes, I often find this paper useful:

http://www.wordforword.se/avoid.htm - Avoiding Swenglish

And on topic - I totally disagree with the first post, "I'm afraid" is for me a very British way of politely regretting something.

Of course. Just use a table prefix. You set one when you install the forum.

Edit: Dang, beaten by 5 seconds ^^

Testing never speeds up a release. wink

But it can lead to higher quality.

Yes, but for individual posts they would lose their context. I know that bf2s.com have made a mod that does exactly this. Don't think the guy will release it to the public though.

Sometimes accompanied by a function which lets the higher admins view all edits of a post in chronological order

Nice to see good quality contribution!

If there is no unique class for the table in the Top10-box, add a class (of your own) to the table-tag in the plugin's .php file.

<table class="mytable">

Then specify in the css file something like:

.pun .mytable td {
  cellspacing: 0;
  border-collapse: collapse;
}

it doesnt render my site correctly.  the content div always is rendered way wider than it should (and if anyone knows of a hack to make it work right, I'd be ever so greatful).  I've considered removing the stylesheet completely for opera browsers.

With Opera, you don't need a hack to make it work right. You need to remove the hack you used to make it look right in IE. Validate your site using the tools W3C provides, that's a good start. There is both an XHTML and a CSS validator.

my local Best Buy

Best Buy rocks, bought some stuff there when I was driving through NC actually smile ... unfortunately we don't have Best Buy in Sweden. Our electronics supermarkets suck big time...

Anyway, what I meant wasn't hardware incompatability as in conflicts where stuff wont even work at all, I was talking about little glitches or problems that might snowball on you after a while... I'm more or less decided on getting a Macbook now btw. My ThinkPad X31 is working flawlessly though, it'll always be my link to the windows universe!

As for the AS/400 I wouldn't know... I'm too young. But we have a couple of Crays like this one

set up as monumental sofas on my campus. smile

Well I for one am also fed up with computers. Mostly because of hardware issues. But I think the problem lies in that we build our own computers from components. There are no (extensive) tests or compatability checks before the build, and that's why all of these little or big problems keep popping up.

I'm either going to buy a new pc from a large manufacturer like Dell, or follow my artistic vein and buy a Macbook. I recently bought a Mac mini for my girlfriend, and it's a really sweet machine. Everything just works.

Mark: I wasn't totally clear, what I mean was of course progress reports from the devs, on 1.3.

Yes checking the activity in the repository is a totally different thing from a progress report.

I agree with pogenwurst but at the same time it takes about 2-3 minutes to write up a quick "what's going on"-post. Even if it's just "Totally busy right now, haven't had time, the dog just barfed on my keyboard..." or whatever. smile

Google for "htaccess" for example.

In fact, if you had used a seach engine for that question instead of posting it here, you would have had an answer a lot quicker, plus intructions on how to do it.

I just discovered PSPad, and I'll be using it until Notepad++ includes remote editing via FTP.
