Here we go...I do believe this was the old 1.2 extension I used.  It's called MiniPortal.

Yeah...I saw that one in there, but the old extension I used back with PunBB 1.2 did it differently.  You could make posts and the posts showed up on an index page.  The index page was the first page to load of course and it did not have the forums boards or anything like that.  It was merely a front page where you could insert a header picture, a side bar with comments and posts information or whatever else you wanted to put in to it and then of course, the posts that were in the "news" topics on the forums (you made a thread that was only for news posts and only admins could post on it) would then show up on the front page. You could control how many were on the page and everything...it was really nifty and allowed you to customize your PunBB install and make it look like something a little more than just...forums.

The arcade extension would be nice, but my main worry is that front page extension.  I have been looking, but it doesn't seem like anyone ever took the time to make it work for any later updated PunBB's. I would rather not go through the old 1.2 stuff and sift it all out of there. I wish I knew the names of the old ones from back then, but I just can't think of them.  It's been too long now.

Wow...what happened to PunBB over the last few years?  Did the community just up and die or something?

I used to have a website for a gaming league around 5-7 years ago.  I used PunBB at the time and I really enjoyed it. I am setting up a site again and I have chosen PunBB again. Although, I wonder if someone could direct me to a few things or let me know if they are still around or available to use.

1)  I had a mod/extension of some sort that would let me make a post to a "news" area on the forums and then the posts would show up on the index page.  The index page was not the forums index page....it was more like a homepage and what not.

2)  I also had an arcade mod that had a bunch of arcade games that kept track of scores and stuff.

Is this stuff still around and available?

nm....figured it out.

I'll try and see what happens.  I tend to delete 1 to 5 registrations daily.

In case this does nothing...I would still love to know of a way to just block their registrations once and for all wink

Heh...how did a rules page stop them?  I'm asking out of serious curiosity. Why would a spammer care or have any regards for the rules?

I get a lot of spam registrations on my forums.  I'm sure I'm not the only one that is having this issue and I have done some searches, but haven't come up with what I am looking for yet.

How can I block registrations from certain domains?  I have been keeping a log on my site of deleted registrations that looks like this.  Notice the same types of email domains all the time?  How can I prevent them from registering period?

No.  I get a fair amount of bogus signups on my site.  Some are .ru and some are mail.ru and other various things.

I would really like to know of a way to simply block certain domains from registering at all.  Anyone know of a good way to completely block registrations from all of the obvious spammer registrations?  It's very easy to tell when a spammer registers just by the email...

ahaha.  I feel stupid and should have known that.  I mean...I as already using the include in the first place.  ahahaha...thanks guys.

//use constant MY_URL so no one includes $their_url
define('MY_URL', 'http://mysite.com/forumpath/');
@curl_exec(@curl_init(MY_URL."extern.php?action=active&show=10"));
?>

I put this in and changed the link to my site, but it doesn't produce anything on my page.  It's just blank.  Could anyone help me out with what I might have done wrong or is there something else to add to this code?

This is the code sitting in my main.tpl to try to get this to work. Again, I got the box, but there's no info.

<div class="block">
        <h2 class="block2"><span>Active Topics</span></h2>
        <div class="box">
            <div class="inbox">
                <?php
                //use constant MY_URL so no one includes $their_url
                define('MY_URL', 'http://gamersides.com/ngl/');
                @curl_exec(@curl_init(MY_URL."extern.php?action=active&show=5"));
                ?>
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>

I read that in there...but just passed it off since it had done this before and then a day or two later, it came back up with no issues. I'll have to contact my server admin I guess and see what's up.  I don't see any reason why it was disabled.

On my forums, I have the sidebar and all of that.  One of the boxes uses and include to a small script to show the active topics.  Pulled it right from somewhere linked off of here...nothing special.

I've had it give me a few errors before in the past, but they were there and then just went away so I assumed it was a server issue. I'm getting an error on that box now though and it's been there for 3 days now. Not going away. The rest of the site works just fine. It's just this one little bit.  This is the error I am getting:

Warning: include() [function.include]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /server data blah blah blah/ngl/include/user/atopic.php on line 6

Warning: include(http://ngl.gamersides.com/extern.php?action=active&show=5) [function.include]: failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /server data blah blah blah/ngl/include/user/atopic.php on line 6

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'http://ngl.gamersides.com/extern.php?action=active&show=5' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /server data blah blah blah/ngl/include/user/atopic.php on line 6

Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Personally, it's way too expensive. Nice system, but way overpriced.

I have a feeling we'll see more extensions than we've seen mods in the past wink

Same and I really hope so, but myself and many many others are wondering just how long we are going to end up waiting. I'd like to do a few other things to my forums...but worried about when 1.3 goes live and performing the upgrade to 1.3 and still keeping all of my current stuff. Even though some of the mods done to my forums I KNOW won't transfer over to 1.3...I just worry about some of the more basic mods or changes I've made to the forums.

I'm really wanting 1.3 to come out as well. I hear that it's much easier and all, but I think you, myself and many many others are craving for the finish and release of it. I have a heavily modded (well, not too heavily, but heavy enough) forum running and I love PunBB, but I'm a little scared to do too much more with it as I'm not a php guru by any means and if something went wrong, I would be screwed.

With this extension setup we keep hearing about, I wouldn't have to worry about this kind of issue for upgrades or mods or anything. Put the plugin in, if it don't work, yank it.  Sounds great...I just really hope the wait isn't that long. I'd like to make a few changes to my forums...but don't want to do too much till 1.3 is out, I have it up and running and see what kind of extensions are coming with it. I'd hate to upgrade and find out that my previous hacks and mods to get it how I like it won't work anymore due to no extensions or some other reason.

Mind if I ask, but I have seen that arcade setup once or twice before.  Which Arcade mod is that? I could never figure that out.

Anyone have a credit card with like 1 cent on it (or hardly any money) that I could use. I need it to verify my paypal acc. If you do email me it plz.

You know, I keep reading your posts and dilemnas with this paypal account that you need verified. I'm sorry, but this just keeps smelling of scam to me.  If I'm wrong, then I do apologize right now, but it seems that there are much safer and easier ways to confirm your paypal account than to use someone else's credit card or whatever you are trying to do.

You got a checkbook?  Your routing number is there on your checks...at least here in America.  If not, call your bank and ask them for their routing number and they should give it to you. Then you can verify your paypal account and use it anywhere you want too.

Do I have a checkbook? Hmm dunno, I have withdrawal slips and deposit slips in my little booklet. And yes, I live in america. (Credit is so much easier and faster, anyone got one with hardly any money on it that they don't need)

Call your bank, get the routing number and get your paypal verified. Then you can buy anything you want to buy to get your site up and running.

I'm not a css guru by any means, but did you try to change the size specified here in the style.css?

The ".rightcol" is where the width is put in for that right column. Not sure if that would work or not if you were to change it around.

/* LEFT SIDE */

#left {
    float: left;
    width: 250px;
}
    .box {
        padding: 4px 15px;
        border: 1px solid #ccc;
        margin: 0 0 10px 0;
    }
    .note {
        padding: 15px 15px 20px 100px;
        border: 1px solid #CFCB66;
        margin: 0 0 5px 0;
        background: #FFFFAD url(images/package.gif) no-repeat;
        color: #585616;
    }

/* RIGHT SIDE */

#right {
    float: right;
    width: 643px;
}
    .leftcol {
        float: left;
        padding: 12px 15px;
        width: 285px;
        border:#ccc 1px solid;
        text-align: justify;
        margin: 0 0 10px 0;
    }
    .rightcol {
        float: right;
        padding: 10px 15px;
        width: 285px;
        border:#ccc 1px solid;
        margin: 0 0 10px 0;
        }
    .special {
        clear: both;
        margin:0px 0 20px 0;
        padding: 5px 20px;
        border: 1px solid #ccc;
        background: #eee;
        color: #444;
    }

Other than the Top Posters box being too wide in my opinion, I rather like the way it seems to be coming together. Looks like a good modification.
