Topic: how do you upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 without a fuss?

I know this question has probably been asked a few times already, but i'm asking again as i can't find any definitive answers.. (suggestion - perhaps a guide could me posted & made sticky)

I've uploaded a test 1.3RC forum onto some spare webspace & had a play around, however i'm now considering updating one of my existing forums running 1.2.14 (yes i know i should upgrade more often, but it's not easy with a modified forum) to 1.3.

I've done a test with an old database backup basically installing pun1.3 onto the site & then using an old database from 1.2 to see what happens.  As you can imagine & as i thought it would, 1.3 is looking for tables that haven't been created & keeps chucking out errors.

is there a migration tool on the cards or is there one & i just can't find it, or have i got to do everything long-hand & edit the database & create tables etc along with editing scripts manually?

Also, one thing i want to ask.  how does 1.3 fare with coppermine integration?  if I upgrade a bridged 1.2 forum to 1.3, does this mean that all my coppermine bridging is going to go up the wall & my coppermine extension of the forum become useless?  I dare say i should ask the question on the coppemine support site, but then i don't know how 1.3 works as the same bridging may work because it's technically a 1. release & not a 2. release of PunBB.

Also as a sub-question is there a way of turning off the "Currently used extensions:" notifier in the footer.  I'd sooner it be turned off as personally I think it's an open invite to encourage hackers if you are telling the world you have a modified forum.

Use /extras/db_update.php

Yes, mostly. Though you can look for PunBB/FluxBB extensions similar to the mods you are using now.

See http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … in-footer/ .
Though I suppose hacker can always easily figure out, whether you have installed the extension he needs.

Trac Error

No node /punbb/branches/punbb-1.3-dev/extras/db_update.php at revision 986

You can search in the repository history to see if that path existed but was later removed

I also need to upgrade a 1.2.x forum to 1.3.2 - how is best way to proceed?

Basically  I just want the databases i.e. posts, users and want to place them in fresh database (I use phpMyadmin if that helps)
MySQL-Version:     4.1.22   (old forum uses)
MySQL-Version:     5.1.26-rc (new one uses)

PunBB 1.2.14  my version.

Re: how do you upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 without a fuss?

Hey guys, I think I've managed to find a workaround for the coppermine bridge and 1.3:

http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/ind … 221.0.html

Like I said over there, I'm not 100% what I did, but it seems to work.  Was wondering if anyone would be able to verify the changes to make sure they're ok?

Thanks,
Julian
