Re: Firefox 1.0 PR impressions

The requirement-page on the Firefox homepage tells me that it supports Win98, but when I try running it on my girlfriends computer i get the error-message where it complains about oleaut32.dll.

Someone knows what to do?

Re: Firefox 1.0 PR impressions

Upgraded to 0.10.1(1.0pr) of Firefox today.

Was running 0.9.3 and the speed gain in rendering pages is noticeable.

Gecko keeps getting faster and faster, simply amazing.

Chacmool, found this:

The "splash and die" bug occurs on  on early Win98 systems.

See  http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197692#c30
Mozilla exits immediatly after showing the splash screen

The problem  is an outdated windows\system\oleaut32.dll (file version older than 2.30.4265). The solution is to install the Microsoft Windows Libraries update.

Re: Firefox 1.0 PR impressions

The problem is I don't even see the splash... but I'll try installing the Window-libraries. Thanks!

Re: Firefox 1.0 PR impressions

Ok, Firefox rc1 is out:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/f … es/1.0rc1/

Bad news, the smoke theme doesn't work :(

Re: Firefox 1.0 PR impressions

Hopefully RC1 will fix all the crashes I've experienced with the PR.

I've only experienced one crash, and that was a SQL command gone wrong.

What were you doing when it crashed?

Re: Firefox 1.0 PR impressions

Nothing special. It usually crashes when opening a new window. Not all the time, but sometimes.

There's a new option in 1.0rc1 to open new windows from external applications:

Advanced:
Tabbed browsing
Open links from other applications in:
1. a new window
2. a new tab in the most recent window
3. the most recent tab/window

I prefer #2 myself, it works very nice when clicking on a local file or a link from your email client.

Hopefully this may solve your crashes.

Re: Firefox 1.0 PR impressions

Got the Smoke theme working in 1.0rc1:

1. Unpack the jar file.
2. Edit the install.rdf:
from: <em:maxVersion>0.10+</em:maxVersion>
to: <em:maxVersion>1.0+</em:maxVersion>
3. Zip up the files, no compression into a new .jar
4. Open up the themes dialog, drag the jar file onto the left pane.

Everything works fine except the find toolbar, no close button, press esc to clear instead.

This procedure should work for all the themes that were compatible for 1.0pr.

So is three posts on the subject and please don't use the report feature unless there really is something that needs reporting.

Nice. I haven't experienced a single crash since RC1, but I think I'll update anyway.

I just upgraded.  I'm in browser heaven!  smile

If its cheaper to run Windows than it is to run Linux, how come Microsoft has all the money?
