Topic: make punbb slave to a master user database

I have an existing set of pages and site that has a user logon and authentication procedures. Is there anyway to use that user information inplace of punbb's user table or even say sync the punbb usertable with the other and pass punbb authentication tokens of soem kind telling it what user is logged in?
