This is a piece of good news, or silly news.
Good for them... shame when I last looked is still as bloated as the last. Plus page times have only improved slightly... and not on all pages.
Erm... think I will stay.... with PunBB.

phpBB3 is much improved but if I wanted more bells and whistles than PunBB, I would use SMF.
No matter how good phpBB3 is, it's still going to be a target for spammers and script kiddies. If you want to see what I mean, throw up a phpBB forum on your web server and watch the logs, mucho fun.

Well, somebody is letting a forum post hang out there for no reason other than to let the freaking perl script keep adding to said thread. This isn't spam, it's masochism!
It's a forum of a company in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, China.
it is still using 1.1 ... and if there is no posting control no surprise it get spammed

Personally, I can't honestly say that I'll be too fussed about switching over anyhow. 
At the end of the day, a lot of use are using a secure, (as possible within usable constraints), forum which we've modded to do exactly what we want and how. Upgrading just for the sake of there being a newer version available ain't always the best option.

I think is a big news, because punbb and phpbb were a couple of time ago in development versions that promises a lot when released.
Now phpbb was released but punbb was not 
Hey, but is anyone comparing? I'm still love and want punbb over phpbb.
But in order to be neutral, it should be nice to try the new version.

I'll stick with PunBB. One of the reasons is PunBB is easier to style. PhpBB has a load of template files, it would be a pain in the *** to style it. And PunBB gets a cool modding tool .
Why cannot a beta version come soon?
I dont care if it take one year to crate punbb 1.3. We need beta version

Why? I've still not seen anything mentioned about 1.3 which has given me the slightest inclination to consider updating to it when it does finally arrive.
