Topic: A development question...

I am currently running a forum with PunBB 1.2.6. I would like to upgrade to the latest version, and I was thinking...

1. Install a fresh copy of PunBB in a new directory on my server, using my current database info.
2. Make my tweaks (mostly to the CSS).
3. Once everything is working properly and looks the way I want it to, move the installation manually to the directory I am currently using for the live forums.

Is there a danger in this? Am I nuts? Am I asking for trouble running two separate installs? What I am trying to avoid is having to take the current board down, rush to do the upgrade, and get the new one up. I'd like to take my time due to the fact that I am currently running such an old version.

Advice? Thanks...

Re: A development question...

That approach sounds perfectly workable to me.

Another way would be to manually apply the hdiff or apply the patch file:
http://punbb.org/download/hdiff/hdiff-1 … .2.16.html
http://punbb.org/download/patch/punbb-1 … 2.16.patch

Assuming most of your tweaks are to the CSS, those are viable options as well. However, your way sounds fine.

Edit: Typo, I've been working with a bad CVS repo all day and obviously I'm still thinking about it x(
