I have no idea what the differences are schema-wise between SMF 1.1. and SMF 1.0. Ideally, they're similar and everything will convert fine except for the passwords (because of differing auth schemes).

There's a mass email plugin as well.

As long as your forum have "valid email" rules from your old forum (SMF).
Its easy. Give the "big" announcement at your forum.

Just modified the "login.php", change some information or add more link explanation that will redirect
to Loss Password

Your Member or User forum will follow the process.
And then, the important thing is "modifying" some parts like:
1. /lang/English/login.php
2. .................../mail_templates/activate_password.tpl
3. etc..

That what I did (a year ago) to convert thousands of my member forum from SMF into PunBB smile
