Is there a relatively easy way (I'm not much into php) to set up two PunBB forums that would use the same database for user authorization and info?

I installed second forum so that it uses first forum's users database as described in these threads (inserted $sql = str_replace(... instruction into mysql.php file). However, the new forum does not "see" first forum's user groups (the non-default ones). What do I do to make it "see" them?
