Topic: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I like prevx edge.  (http://prevx.com/)

What is your recommendation?

Also what is best to get rid of infections?

Thx.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

There is no best option per se. Your best option is to run several products alongside each other. Relying upon one alone will always miss something. That one you've posted the link to seems to be a general cover everything type programme, (with misleading statistics, might I add). I'd personally suggest running tools which are designed for each specific area. They tend to be far better in their specific field.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I was wondering about those statistics. Kind of give the impression they catch everything and competitors don't catch X'XXX.

They all say in their installation options not to run others alongside I thought? Some don't even let you install if they've detected certain other known products.(McAfee?)

Yeah. Those statistics they've posted seem mostly to be compared to specialised scanners though, so obviously they will only detect what they are designed for. Plus, they don't give the reverse figures of what they miss which other products catch. Those figures are purely marketing hype.

Not if you run the decent products they won't. I wouldn't touch Norton/McAfee with a bargepole, (or anyone elses for that matter). big_smile Anti-virus wise, ClamAV/ClamWin is a nice cross platform option. Spyware, there are plenty of options for.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I use ESET Smart Security.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

i use norton internet security 2009 with spyware terminator, and already installed windows defender.

check this site for comparison: http://www.av-comparatives.org/

eset is also good. but norton 2009 is completely different from older versions. its the Best.

Avast is very good; I never had a problem with viruses and malware with this one big_smile

I agree with her, I've been using Avast for a couple of months.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

Avast + malwarebytes anti malware and a little bit of common sense

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

This was suggested by one of our tech guys, but obviously, it's not as strict as Avira, as eventually a few bugs got through it.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

Me, I prefer AVAST. I like its boot-time scan feature that scan and fix the system prior to loading the OS. Been using it for quite sometime now (the Home Ed.)

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I'm using prevx and am VERY happy with it. It's the best I've seen so far. Previously I had Norton Suite and various free AV programs and they didn't always protect me nor got rid of every infection.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

i use Kaspersky 7.2 and it has been working reasonably well for me

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

Thanks to share this information.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I only prefers to use the Kaspersky anti virus. It is working really very well for me. It helps me a lot to get the recent updates there. It really helps your computer to prevent the intrusion of the virus easily. It is very useful for anyone to protect your computer in a desired way.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

Yes AVAST!

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I use several and it seems to be working although lately I keep getting the sorry page on google and can't figure out what is going on. It says that there are automated requests being performed by my computer when I try to search for something. I've run Avira, MS Security Essentials and Ad-Aware and can't find anything that is causing the problem.

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I have a combo made of Kaspersky and Malwarebytes AV. Have been using Avast with some success before, but I could see the differences (using Symantec AV Corporate at work), so that could not remain as an option.
Interesting enough - the full version of Malwarebytes has a real-time IP protection module, and it can also run at scheduled times. If the bug is on their list, you'll only notice the removal and everything is done with minimum costs in terms of memory and CPU (under Windows 7 at least). If you want the full version, you can save a few dollars with a Malwarebytes coupon code shared by users

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

I just use AVG free, but have been looking for a new AV/malware tool, useful thread.

Will check some of these out.
Last time I tried kaspersky it sucked but it's been a few years so I'll try it again.  big_smile

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

avast for sure

Re: Best Anti-Virus, -Malware Tool?

If you want free version, get AVG Anti-Virus. If you able to get commercial one I recommend you to get Norton. I'm suggesting Norton because among all the commercial Anti Virus I have used, Norton seems to be having the best User Interface. Besides that, they've been there quite long time. They knows their customers expectation.

That's quite a statement roll

As far as anti malware, Spybot is very nice.
