Topic: PunBB 1.3.5

Just thought I'd get a couple of ideas off my chest:

Extensions info in footer
=================================================
old (in footer)
Currently installed 'x official extension'. Copyright 2003-2009 PunBB

new and optional (set via features in admin panel)
Extensions used (installed): 'x' (x being a link that takes user to page with more information)

--> then on that page linked put how many official / unofficial extensions are installed (maybe version? link set by ext author) and copyright (keeping the powered by on right hand side above)

Add unofficial extensions to punbb.informer.com Repository

=================================================
--> ext authors send their extension to an admin who then uploads to informer ftp
--> to make sure anyone installing knows that they're installing unofficial extension, use bold warnings, colors etc

(I'd be willing to be responsible for uploading, liasing with the authors of course)

Any views on the subject?

I agree that there should be included unofficial extensions as well, but imo you don't need to have another page with info about those extensions. If it would be link to the Wiki page with extensions, that would be imo better.

That should also include reworking extension repository a little bit (sorting to categories...) - there's 23 official extensions - it would be real mess with adding those unofficial...

But imo even if this won't added I believe there should be 1.3.5 soon. There are some bugs in core, and well... the community would need some kind of signal like "We are still here. Join us." Otherwise PunBB will die sad

Yes that would be fine.

Which ones are you thinking of?

found these two just today....

PS: I'd suggest you join the devs, with your knowledge! (temporarily anyway - as you mentioned school tongue

It would already help a lot of, if instead of 5 lines (when you got to extension section in admin area) for each ext , there was just one line (and maybe two columns). Like that it would be a more easy to navigate the list. There are 100-150 extensions - getting that on a list isn't that messy.

Could also be done admin > extensions > official      &  admin > extensions > unofficial.

As well, I would suggest to change Visit timeout description, since the current one isn't really informing...

'Visit timeout help' => 'Seconds idle before last visit data is updated',

I suggest something like this

'Seconds idle before user is logged out'

And also I think one little change could be done at rss feeds.

Just saw this task being assigned, so new version will be hopefully coming soon smile (Thx alexp wink)

I added tickets for all bugs I saw here, so hopefully it'll be implemented smile

Anyway, there are three things left, that should be imo added (changed) in 1.3.5

- What do you think? Should it be added to next release? smile

Re: PunBB 1.3.5

I see advantages in releasing 1.3.5 with a few of the above mentioned improvements/fixes, then releasing again in Nov/Dec 1.3.6.... otherwise it could get overloaded/ too big a task.... (unless someone were to propose code changes and save core devs time... wink )

I always find it easier to stay motivated like that anyway... but of course it's up to Slavok and alexp....

Well, not really - most of tickets are just changes to one line of code or so => there shouldn't be problem to do them all smile

Useless, users don't care about that. It has to be deleted. It could save a little SQL database.  cool

Re: PunBB 1.3.5

@Audiofeeline: Actually, I think this info isn't from database - it's directly in code from extensions.

But personally, I'd rather leave there info about extensions (it's not important for users, but it's important for other administrators, if they'd like to install those extensions as well), extended as described in my first post here.

IMO the footer could be remade in something like this

Current version:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6232434/Drafts/footer%20-%201.3.4.PNG

Suggested version:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6232434/Drafts/footer%20-%201.3.6.PNG

I believe that the <select> menu is redundant, and could be deleted smile

Anyway, this change is a little bit more "demanding" (implementing unofficial extensions to the repository and so, could be a bit harder), so I think this should be implemented rather in 1.3.6

Re: PunBB 1.3.5

Okay, so I've finished the roadmap so that we know how 1.3.5 is going smile IMO there's everything which should be implemented and it shouldn't take much time. Please developers take one day, when you sit on that and programme it. We would greatly appreciate that smile
