Topic: Can't setup email send

Entered server/login/psw correct (my mailbox asks for authorisation), but when i try to send email via forum it gives me a message

An error was encountered
Error: Unable to send e-mail. Please contact the forum administrator with the following error message: "502 unimplemented (#5.5.1)

sometimes gives the same message when i try to post messages, but when i come back and try again it comes thrue. And in the topic same massege is posted twise.

for some reason forum doesn't allow to have dash (-) in message. when i do not allow to post messages/topics/avatars with ALL CAPS, it's not letting thrue messages with only first capitol letter

The post errror is probably because it wants to send some subscription mails.

You say your mailbox asks for authentication, but are you sure you SMTP server does? Have you tried removing the username and password in admin/options?

yes, i am sure smtp needs authentication, becouse wgen i send message from outlook i need to login in pop3 (check mailbox) first.
I tried to remove username and password and it starts to send email using users mail account in outlook

Jansson yeah probably that's why, coz i can't subscribe to any topic while mail client is not set up..
oh i just figuered it out, probably the problem was in my provider. When i entered login of regular free-baser email serves - everything worked fine..
And what about the dash and the caps proof system? What other restrictions are in this forum?
Is there a full manual of using PunBB?

Aha, in that case I believe you can't use that SMTP server with PunBB (at least not with the current version). PunBB authorizes against the SMTP server, it does not first login via pop3.

I'm sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying you can't post messages at all that contain a dash? Try changing the permissions "All caps message" and "All caps subject" in admin/permissions.

yep.. it says that i'm using not allowed symbols or writing the hole messahe with caps, tho i'm not.. And when I was setting up my avatar i had three lines starting with capitol letters and no dashes, it still was not letting it thrue, untill i switched off allcaps protection in avatar messege
I had to switch off allcaps protection everywhere, coz some users were complaining that forum is not accepting their messages becouse of the reason i mentioned above

yes it works fine with protection removed.. The same message went thrue fine when i turned the capslock protection off..

And i have one more question while i was using the board.. some users enter the site from url www.newtimepromo.ru/forum, some from http://newtimepromo.ru/forum.. My base url is http://newtimepromo.ru/forum and some functions (delete, edit topic, changes in avatar etc) doesn't work if user came from www.newtimepromo.ru/forum
Is there any way to include both urls so this changes could apply from any of this urls?

I'm guessing this only applies to admins and moderators. In that case, have a look at this post. The issue has been fixed in 1.2.
