I checked both demos. Features are same?

You could probably convert from SMF to phpBB and then from that to PunBB 1.3.4

Install PunBB 1.2.x > migrate from SMF > upgrade PunBB to 1.3.x
(Instead of SMF > phpbb > again to PunBB)
