While the site is in maintenance is there anyway you can log-out and still log back in. As i have had to re-install because i logged out

No, there isn't possible to relog while in maintenance mode, but you may switch off the maintenance mode manually. Just find row "o_maintenance" in table punbb_config in your database and switch it to 0. And delete files in your ./cache folder
