I am, too searching for an effective method for integrating punbb with wordpress. There are several discussions over the internet, but they are not clear or rather outdated.

In textpattern we use

<?php echo file_get_contents('http://url-of-forum.tld/extern-1.php'); ?>

to parse links to the latest posts in the forum.

so you just change your punbb theme to make it looks like  WordPress.did u purchase this theme? its possible to see screenshot of ur theme?
