Topic: Support for Markdown?

Hi folks, I'm new to the PunBB forum, but have been a heavy user of this platform for forum.openwrt.org.

I searched through the forum, and found that there were requests asking for Markdown support in 2007 and 2012. Now that it's many years later, there are several good Markdown -> HTML rendering packages, so one hurdle has been removed. I figure it's worth asking:

Is anyone considering adding Markdown support to PunBB? Thanks.

In a text editor or even rewrite the whole page punbb structure for Markdown?

My hope would be that I would be able to type a response using Markdown instead of BBCode. I don't know enough about the structure of PunBB to say how much of a change it would be.

Obviously, the forum would have to track whether a post was typed with BBCode or Markdown format. Then it could convert the saved text (BBCode or Markdown) to HTML for display.

(I am a programmer in another life, so I will resist saying, "All you have do do...") Thanks!
