Anyone got a recomendation for a good cms for a gaming clan site? I have seen PhpClanSite, which is exactly like phpnuke, (which I dont like).

Do, or do not.

Re: A good cms?

I'd recommend pMachine.  It costs [I think like $125 or thereabouts] - but it is an awesome weblog/CMS, that is every powerful and mature.  The support systems that are in place is nothing less than excellent, with a great following.  Also, the pMachine API is exposed and well documented.  pMachine uses what I characterize as 'template objects', which form chunks of code that can be placed on an existing web page, so your not 'stuck' with a given templating system that is difficult to understand.  The template variables are easy to use, understand and implement.

The folks at pMachine also have a step up from it's origins, with a new FULL CMS called Expression Engine.  You can data-model the entire backend.

Check'm out - both are par excellant.

A little on the expensive side. I like cheap, like air cheap, as in free. As for the others, do any of you know how easy (or for that, how hard) it is to change the template, or even if there is a template?

Do, or do not.

Re: A good cms?

I like Mambo.

I think they've got a Dreamweaver extension for making templates.

Before i've used Geeklog.

This one has a geeklog dir outside of public_html for config files, feed classes, etc. Quite secure.

I think you should check Mambo for now, they got a reward recently.

Re: A good cms?

BLOG:CMS is based on Nucleus and can integrate PunBB apparently. Not sure how to work it yet though!

Yes, a plugin was made for Nucleus by radek to integrate PunBB.

On my developer site: http://hcgtv.net, you can see the integration.

The plugin as it stands does the following:
a) Creates a PunBB user when a user registers on Nucleus.
b) Lets you create a PunBB topic from a Nucleus item.
c) Provides a link to the discussion from the item footer.

My plan is to turn over all commenting on my site to PunBB. When 1.2 is released, I'd like to include the forum thread within the item, simlilar to the way blogs display inline comments.

The only issue with php-fusion is this:
Can I use PHP-Fusion for commercial purposes?
If you wish to use PHP-Fusion for commercial purposes you will need to purchase a commercial license, please contact Nick Jones via e-mail at digitanium@php-fusion.co.uk for further details.

Other than that, it's a very fast CMS.

Re: A good cms?

no problem there... i most likely won't be making $ off of the site or selling anything from it.

WordPress is the way to go.

http://wordpress.org/

I tried it out just recently... and nothing comes close to how clean it is put together, and how clean the code is that it outputs.

Try it and you probably will stick with it.

One of the developers is a fellow punbb user too.

http://www.alexking.org/

He even wrote a plugin for pun.
