Topic: Problem with banning an user

Hello,

I have got a big problem with one of the users of my forum, who is destroying the community. I have banned him, but he enters the site from different IP addresses. The common in the IPs is the beginning 83.30.

Do you have any idea how I can deal with this problem?

Re: Problem with banning an user

you could block his username and or email so he cant sign in and sign up

Re: Problem with banning an user

Unfortunately he is changing his username and e-mail too sad

Re: Problem with banning an user

Just ban 83.30 then.

Re: Problem with banning an user

I tried with 83.30* but there was an error message that there is no such IP.

Don't use a * wink

Oh, and just in case you wanted some info on that range:

inetnum:      83.30.0.0 - 83.30.255.255
netname:      NEOSTRADA-ADSL
descr:        Neostrada Plus
descr:        Katowice
country:      PL
remarks:      ! - ! - ! - ! - ! - !
remarks:      Contact to ABUSE TP S.A. :
remarks:      abuse@tpnet.pl
remarks:      ! - ! - ! - ! - ! - !

I would try reporting him to his ISP, I know they sometimes respond and punish the user.

Re: Problem with banning an user

Thanks a lot! You are great!

Smartys, how do you think, is there any way to deal with the problem instead of banning all users from Katowice region (about 5 mln people live there)?

Re: Problem with banning an user

there isnt much. its totally impossible to completley ban a user. just wait till he finds out what a proxy is wink

You're not banning 5 million people. 83.30 only covers approx. 65000 IP addresses. From 83.30.0.0 to 83.30.255.255.

Re: Problem with banning an user

But is it possible to change the IP when it is not the IP of your computer but the IP of the provider?

Report them to their ISP? Give them times and IPs and leave the rest to them. It's worth a try wink

What is ISP?

Re: Problem with banning an user

Internet Service Provider wink

Just send an email to abuse@tpnet.pl telling them what happened, including specific IPs/times

Re: Problem with banning an user

I will do that. Thanks a lot!

i think i understand what your saying, and yes, you can. forgot how to do it for IE, but FF is much better anyway. for FF (FireFox) click Tools, Options, General, Connection Settings, then type in the ip and port of the proxy, and, tada!

Re: Problem with banning an user

Edward, you can get the information from applications like Norton Internet Security.

This is the latest one I got

inetnum: 83.27.128.0 - 83.27.255.255
netname: NEOSTRADA-ADSL
descr: Neostrada Plus
descr: Poznan
country: PL

So my question is, now that I have this information, What can I do to stop this person from attempting to connect to my machine?

Actually, ARIN and the other whois databases are useful for this tongue

And what do you mean, connecting to your machine? You talking about your forums or no?

Re: Problem with banning an user

Smartys, bascically I got a message from my Norton Internet Security saying that a NetBus Trojan is attempting to connect to my computer.

No I don't have a forum, wouldn't know how to set up one :)

Re: Problem with banning an user

lol
That's not nice tongue
Download the free ZoneAlarm?

Edit: I assume that if it's telling you that, it's also blocking it tongue
But I doubt it's really that bad, probably just Norton over-reacting

Send info to those and you have done what you can. If it's an abuse/spam/virus matter...
