Anyone know of any good free PHP/HTML editors for windows?
Thanks. Seems really nice =)
i been using notepad++ its nice, it supports lots of languages, tabbed interface (with split screen if you want) backgrounds colours for php and javascript within a page, you can collapse html tags and stuff (nice for big functions in php) anyway i like it even if it is a bity feature packed
how does it handle newlines? (ie. possible to do correct XML with it?)
i dunno what does it need to do to do correct xml?
well mostly possible to set to a single linebreak char instead of 2 that windows usually have ... so the parsers shouldn't need to strip out double chars
("correct XML" was perhaps the wrong expression of mine ... ah well ... you know what I mean )
you can choose windows format (CR LF), mac format (CR), or unix format(LF)
My favorite editor for PHP/HTML/CSS/Java/C++/whatever is HTML-Kit. I love the fact that it has a built in ftp sidebar to directly edit files on the server. There are tons of extensions you can install, as well as a good HTML reference and Style reference built in! I haven't used the references in years, but I remember when it was QUITE handy. They also have a kludgy WYSIWYG that can help you build pages if you dont know HTML too well. Everyone who uses Notepad2 or Notepad++ should check it out. We all have our preferences, but I definately think its worth a look!
i don't like it that much, it has too many buttons and boxes and stuff... however that might be because i don't really want something to do the html and stuff for me i just want a nice syntax hightlighter, with a tabbed view and split screen... which fr me is notepad++
I use Texturizer. Not free though.
I use Scite at school or whenever i need a text editor while i'm not at home.
I'd have to agree with the Notepad2 and Notepad++ comments. They're both very similar (lots of language support, lean program size, syntax highlighting, free) and both seem do a good job.
Notepad++ offers collapsing display and multi-document interface (with tabs to jump between documents), and more options than Notepad2.
Notepad2 doesn't have as many features but I think it has slightly cleaner/simpler look. I also prefer the default PHP syntax color scheme of Notepad2 but you can, of course, change these in both programs.
you can choose windows format (CR LF), mac format (CR), or unix format(LF)
nice ... hmm... you've got an url for notepad++? (I saw some earlier, but it was dead)
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/about.php sf seems painfully slow lately
but here is the background highlighting which i love http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/com … erHTML.gif
oh and another neat feature, you can put a little marker next to line numbers (e.g. if you are jumping around a document) and switch between these bookmarks
thanks
I've used these, and they seem pretty good:
1stPage 2000 from Evrsoft
AceHTML Freeware
Both have multiple tabs, syntax highlighting, spell checking, html tidy, validation tools, colour pickers and stuff like that. Some limited project mgt functions as well, and sample script libraries.

Not sure if that would be in violation of "Use common sense" or "Don't post anything you wouldn't want your mother to see". It all depends on your mother I guess :)
download trial and crack... use dreamweavers nice fast server to get the program
