Topic: 'New' Posts

I always seem to have a problem with getting interrupted when I'm viewing forums, which of course can reset the 'new' status of posts. (I love the 'view unread posts' :) I agree with the post elsewhere, Pun shouldn't keep track of the posts I've read. I was wondering if there could be a way to either reset the 'new' status to an arbitrary date, or a link on the 'new posts' page to display posts in a few different ranges. (New posts in the past day, past week, whatever)

Would make my forum viewing not so important that I finish everything at once. :)

Re: 'New' Posts

a tip is to use multiple windows, click the link "Show new posts since last visit" at the top, and then open the links from that in new windows (so you never reload that page), this way, it won't 'timeout' on you, removing the exclamationmarks

Re: 'New' Posts

Well there is a "View recent posts" link on the index page which gives you all the posts in the last 24 hours starting with newest first.  If somebody wanted to I'm sure they could mod that to be a select box with 24hour, 48 hours, 7 days etc in it.

That's exactly what I do, in Firefox, tab #1 has new posts and then I middle click the links and open them up in new tabs.

Yeah, I use tabs; but the time stamp gets updated wether I lose the list of posts or not.

And I totally missed the "Show last 24 hours" because TextDrive doesn't have that, heh. Would be nice to include maybe a show_48h and show_lastweek in the source even if it wasn't in the base templates, would be a real simple change to include then.

Re: 'New' Posts

err, jsut noticed this doesn't seem to work, as the "Show posts since last visit" thingie use links that doesn't say when, viewtopic.php then redirects to itself after figuring out when one was there the last time ...

so one need to open up all topics before the last visit time updates ... unfortunately...

I don't get it Frank. What won't work?

Re: 'New' Posts

what I wrote at the top, it's not enough to open that page, one need to open all the unread threads before one can start reading them, as the link says action=new, and then the  time when the actual viewtopic.php is asked for is used, instead of when one opened the "show posts since last visit"-page ... just as msheets had noticed. Wrote about it here...

Re: 'New' Posts

Well, true, but in order for you to time out, you have to be "still" for 10 minutes (in these forums it's 10 minutes). If you click a link somewhere, you get 10 more minutes.
