Topic: Uploading files

Hi, im new to this so i'll get straight to the point..
Im trying to install PunBB 1.1.5
and im uploading all my files
im just wondering, whether i have to upload them all into one place
or do i have to make new files wherever the new files are in the PunBB 1.1.5 folder which i downloaded from this site.

sorry for being noobish at this..

p.s, anyone who wants to reply "if you dont know how to do this, whats the point trying", how am i supposed to learn if i dont try? tongue (because people say this on lots of forums)

Thanks in advance,
Chunk

Re: Uploading files

Theres no need to create new files. Just select everything in the upload folder and upload it to wherever you want to run your forums from.

Go get smartftp, it's a freeware ftp program. Can be found at http://www.smartftp.com.

Re: Uploading files

i got filezilla instead. Im going to upload to httpdocs, shud i make a folder inside httpdocs called Forum and upload it into there? or do i just upload it into httpdocs?

also, theres a lot of index.htm's. do i upload em all or just 1?

Re: Uploading files

all of them in the correct folder structure, and you can upload into a forum folder if you want to

Re: Uploading files

if i uploaded them into a forum folder, would it add a /forum/ after my domain? if i uploaded them into httpdocs (without forum)  wud the forum be directly at my domain name? my domain name is rsnet.co.uk, so if i typed rsnet.co.uk, wud it take me straight to the forums? if i put them in a forum folder, wud it be rsnet.co.uk/forum? cos i just want a forum, nothing else. sorry for So many questions, but this place is the best 2 help me big_smile

Oh, btw, filezilla wont let me upload folders, only files.. do i have 2 create the files in file manager?

e.g. folder named images, do i upload these files into the same place as everything else? or do i create a folder called images in file manager and upload them to there?

Correct.

That sounds odd. I've never used Filezilla, but I very much doubt it doesn't support uploading folders.

Re: Uploading files

well, as much as i try, i cant seem to get it to upload folders, only files.. what program do you use? ill try that

Re: Uploading files

I use FlashFXP for FTP and WinSCP for SFTP. You probably don't want SFTP, so try FlashFXP. It's not free though.

Re: Uploading files

ta, i have flashfxp already, i just didnt know what it was for lol

Re: Uploading files

.. what a great time for purplecloud's control panel to go down tongue

Re: Uploading files

in filezilla you have to right click over the remote file bit -> create folder. call it whatever you want and put the files in to it.
