Nice. I did not know about that one.

Re: Another biggie

That is a big one, should be added to PunBBig.

Re: Another biggie

What is pleasing is that the performance is as good as a small forum.

The interesting thing about it though is that there is only a page full of members in the userlist, all the posts seem to be guest posts. Does that signify that from a performance and scalability point of view it is not the number of posts or topics that makes the difference but the number of members?

Re: Another biggie

Yeah, I like the speed of it also.

We were discussing on another board where someone is getting slowdowns in vBulletin with only 179,000 posts in their forum. It's taking about 4 seconds to display the front page.

Re: Another biggie

Check the we recommend links at the bottom of the index page, all those forums are huge with about 1-3 pages user list. A little weird.

Wow, it's like a PunBB ring of forums.

Interesting, somebody needs to contact each of them and see if they want to get added to PunBBig.

So many posts, yet so few members. Crazy. I suppose it's because the forums are more about the information, rather than community building...

I take it thats related to not having to display all the member info ?

This one looks like the biggest with 2.9 million posts
http://www.itsistemi.net/

I think they may be archiving posts which may help with speed.

Paul, how would you archive posts?

The earliest registered member is from the 16th of april, yet there are so many posts. Doesn't make sense.

Re: Another biggie

The reason there are so many posts yet so few users is probably because the forums are used only as a means to display a mailing list archive.

Re: Another biggie

What they appear to be doing is harvesting newsgroup posts and putting them in the forum.

the topic view shows a Similar Threads box at the bottom...where can I get that feature/mod?

As a broader question, how can I dissect the elements of this forum to create my own like it?
