Topic: The forum doesn't show anything - doesn't work at all

Hello,

Instructions sais:

A webserver (preferably Apache).
PHP 4.1.0 or later (PHP 5 included).
MySQL 3.23.17 or later, PostgreSQL 7.0 or later or SQLite. (see details below).

I have A webserver, but not my OWN webserver. Is this required? I can't find it in the FAG's. I have uploaded the files, and tried the 'install.php' to from on I.E.

Nothing works. Is it is so that I have to have an own server, then is my question if someone knowes a alternative for someone who want to have a forum on a server from a provider. And the ofcourse a forum not with to much advertising and with support form images (.

Thanks in advance, best regards, Fred

No you don't need your own server, very few people install PunBB on their own servers. PunBB.org is actually hosted on TextDrive. First thing I would try is uploading the files again just in case the files got mangled when you uploaded them, it happens. If that doesn't work come back. You could also post a link to your service provider so we can check if it is suitable for running PunBB.

First thanks for the very quick reply. I have remove al files from the server. I couldn't remove the just made directory. So I made to be shure an exta dir., with the same file. Before that I removed all files from PunBB but the ZIP-file. I remove the dir. and made a new oner. The I unzipped the file to 121 files (toal 846 kB) into the new file. Eventhow the complete new dir. the computer says ''index.html already there, want to overwrit it etc.'. The ghost files aren't in the fle ofcourse. After unzipping in the new dir. the were. The uploaded the with WS FTP LE on a Windows server (!!). Both URL's with all the PunBB files don't work.

I have another server, is it importent to try that one?
Is it save to tell the URL from the forum or is this in conflict with private info (password etc.?)

Thanks in advance.

Yes its safe to tell the URL from the forum, I don't think this is going to get sorted unless you do. The way you normally set up  a forum is to create a folder called forum or something similar on the server. You unzip PunBB on your own computer and then just upload all the directories and files in the Upload folder. Is that what you did?

Hello,

I gues it's normal: om http://www.audiofriends.nl/forumtest1/dog WITH the PunBB files, the picture doesn't show, with the dir. WITOUT PunBB files it does show http://www.audiofriends.nl/forumtest2/dog.

I'll gues it has to do with the 'index.html' at server forumtest1

best regards, Fred

Unfortunatly it seems a lot difficult to place a forum with PunBB. Lots of knowlegde I seem to have, I don't have. I don't see anywhere a 'set-up for dummy's' , neither a refer to one.

So best regards from Fred, and succes with your forums.
