Topic: AJAX Shout Box Testing...

I am currently (trying) to write an AJAX based shoutbox for the lovely PunBB.


Its pretty straight forward. This is first test EDIT: STAGE ... so any problems or comments would be appreciated. If you get a moment please try it out and give me a bit of feedback. Thanks people...

No admin access at present.

Side note: The way this shoutbox works its not made for sites that have silly amount of visitors. Its made for the smaller sites. I am making this for a clan site with about 60 regular members... and x visitors.

The shoutbox works for me in Opera 8.54 but it looks fugly.  Instead of scrolling, the entire shoutbox contents continue down the page and the posting form overlays them.  Also, for some reason the links are bold if Javascript is off, but aren't bold if JS is on.

Ok I have cleared the code a little and sorted out the view for all default styles.

Will be releasing as soon as I have finished the degradation the best I can.

PLUS: Only the test user can delete shouts now...

It's the twice-on-the-userlist bug - it duplicates posts as well. If you had looked, you'd have noticed that the post IDs were the same.

A few difference's actually...

1) message is parsed differently
2) its for the side bar, not full width
3) mine is instant refresh when a message is rcvd by server, yours is not.
4) If you look at the difference between yours and my test... it even looks completely different.

So yours is CHAT box mine is SHOUT box.

Anyway... that test site is old one. This is currently being re-written to use the prototype.js and the later Chat Mod.

Instead of hiding your code and not sharing before you feel like it is stable, how about posting it so that we can help out with bugs as well.

I stopped this project because the chatbox mod (Poke's 1) was modified for AJAX and is easily put on the front of any site. wink
