Re: PunBB 1.2.13

http://freshmeat.net/projects/punbb/ is still 1.2.11
update it . . . freshmeat is a good portal to make new users discover punbb.

I have a weird highly modified version of 1.2.11 on my forum. So I have to manually update via the Difference logs each time.
http://www.jasoco.net/geekpub/index.php

Same here, my premod ( named MyBestBB ) version includes 16 mods and I just have to use the hdiff for each 1.2.*
update, and http://mybestbb.ww7.be new 1.16 version includes 1.2.13 updates

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

Should we now see 1.2.13 in the Admin area? I still see 1.2.12.

Are we all figments of God's imagination?

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

download the Version changer plugin

Did you upload and run 12_to_1213_update.php that's included in the extras directory?

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

So when is 1.3 coming out? smile

Also, will it work better with IE 7?  PunBB is usable in IE7 right now, but it's not all that pretty...

IE 7 isn't official and theres a _small_ amount of users who actually use it as their default browser.

It would (IMO) be better to just wait for the final product since it's still work-in-progress and a lot of stuff can be changed, and added (such as standards) which in theory would better render the content as-is without mods since IE 7 is _supposed_ to comply with the standards. You can do a bunch of CSS hacks to make things look pretty, but then the final product comes out and you don't need 90% of them ... if that even happens.

Theres my two cents. :]

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

What are these "standards" of which you speak?  There aren't any "standards".  There are recommendations, there are recommended "standards", but there aren't any "standards".

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

The standards defined by the W3 Consortium. They should be followed by all browsers and web designers.

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

You mean the "standards", recommended by them.  That is all they are, recommendations.  There aren't any "Standards".

Look at these stats and find out why w3 is "recommened". Basically Microsoft owns the magority of the www browser market, and uses this power to force people to use IE to connect to websites built with microsoft's line of web development tools. The more people who use IE the more web pages developed for IE, the more people buy development tools from microsoft, the more people have to use IE... crazy, sad, cruel, and quiet close to illegal, circle of inevitable large homogeneous populations, that are a risk to society (via tailored viruses, scripts, etc).

The question is not whether Microsoft has evil intents, or whether it may go out of business, but whether its plans match yours. A company may want to deploy thin clients to simplify administration and save money on per-client Windows licenses. But is Microsoft going to make it viable and undercut its Windows market? Where is the alternative if Microsoft implements its software subscription model? If Microsoft is not interested in catering to your market, then you have no other provider to turn to.

So to sum up, should microsoft decide not to implement the standards, they will simply encorage the mess of a web we used to have back in the 14.4 modem days. You had to run netscape and IE to view every page on the web, and even then not all of them displayed correctly. If this is the goal of microsoft, there really isn't much we can do about it, short of buying the company and I don't think that's practical. In the "it's not practical to buy microsoft" way, the w3 standards are recommened. In all other way they are standards, because the text-to-voice web browser for your sister's friend's cousine's blind friend needs these standards to read the titles and heading in order. And that guy at work with the $80/month cellphone with wireless internet access needs these standards to render the pages in a resonably readable fashion. And that guy with the mac, this one with linux, that one ssh'ing into a box and running a text based browser to hide his real ip, need I go on?

echo "deadram"; echo; fortune;

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

Thanks again for all your hard work Rickard.  Your humility actually benefits this project very much. Many programmers would not have gone to any length to research further a problem like you did... and then admit so publicly that they were wrong. Keep up the good work!

Oh... and one more thing.  A moron would never admit to his mistakes.

If its cheaper to run Windows than it is to run Linux, how come Microsoft has all the money?

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

Hello from France,

I did the update today. It seems working fine.

Thanks a lot for your good work.

Re: PunBB 1.2.13

It's really very commendable to see such honesty about one's mistake(s). There's nothing wrong with making a mistake.. they usually provide some of life's best lessons. There are so few capable of such admissions.

Kudos to you Rickard.
