Topic: HELLP MOVING A FORUM

i was using a punbb forum hoster and i found another one that has much more options and was wondering if there is a way to move all my data from website to another so i dont have to start all over again

Re: HELLP MOVING A FORUM

Sure. The scripts are easy. Just download them from the old host and upload them to the new host.

Then you need to download a backup of your database and upload it to the new host. Do you have access to phpMyAdmin or even better, do you have a shell account?

Re: HELLP MOVING A FORUM

It depends on where you're moving from/to. As Rickard said, you'll need to download a backup from your current host. Then I would ask the new host if there's any way for them to import the data. smile

Edit: Which you did smile

Re: HELLP MOVING A FORUM

Hi Rickard,

I have following error message:

An error was encountered
File: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\buero-pc\Desktop\entwicklung\xampp\phpMyAdmin\punbb\include\dblayer\mysql.php
Line: 58

PunBB reported: Unable to connect to MySQL server. MySQL reported: Unknown MySQL server host 'db506.1und1.de' (11001)

Why does the local installations asks for the hosting Server, where and what should a change?

jlangrock: Please don't hijack topics. Instead, start your own.
To answer your question (I think) the database server setting is in config.php. If you move servers you need to update all the database info.
If that doesn't answer your question, please start a new topic

werny: Don't worry, it's unrelated to your request smile

Re: HELLP MOVING A FORUM

Hi Smartys,
I don't want to hijack the topic, My problem is a part of the answer  werny asked, because I was moving too and had the problem with the database. You are right taht the problem was stored in the config.php file, I changed there the Host name and it works. So changing the config.php is part of the solution, therefore I cant see that I'm hijacking this topic.

Re: HELLP MOVING A FORUM

werny's question was related to moving a forum between free PunBB hosts, which isn't the same as generally moving a forum (since the setups for free PunBB hosts are usually such that the user can't modify the database as they see fit)
