Topic: openWYSIWYG

Came across this yesterday while looking at a new project.

http://www.openwebware.com/products/openwysiwyg/

It loads really quick in Firefox and works rather well. It's a very small download, take out the thumbs.db from the equation and it's only 58kb, compared to other huge WYSIWYG editors that get added to small projects.

Personally, I prefer simplistic entry via bbcode or textile but just thought I'd link to this if anyone is interested.

Looks nice smile

Re: openWYSIWYG

Does somebody integrated a open source wysiwyg editor to punbb already ?

Re: openWYSIWYG

Not that I know of. And this one would be impossible as it generates HTML =/

Re: openWYSIWYG

Are there other system available which could be integrated ?
Or will that be a feature for Release 1.3

And not very good HTML either.

That always has been something strange for me. How can one know so much Javascript (or PHP, or whataver) and not know the maybe 15 or 20 appropriate (x)HTML tag syntax, and two only two appropriate DTD ?

Re: openWYSIWYG

I thought of embedding mce into mine, and adding a parser that wraps the html I allow in the reply box into bbcode so that theres some wysiwyg functionality to the reply but ends up formatted how it needs to be.

I never have time for it though.

Re: openWYSIWYG

I think it'd be easier to modify the JS code to use BBCode instead of HTML tongue

I'll take a look at that actually smile

Re: openWYSIWYG

to fancy in my opinion.
I also prefer a simplistic bbcode editor. But for most of the users a wysiwyg is the best. So... there is so many of these projects... when will one code a wysiwyg for bbcode?

Re: openWYSIWYG

Here is a sample how it could look like

Re: openWYSIWYG

Note that I use everyday a vBulletin forum with a fancy wysiwyg editor, and it's bloated and slow, but slooooow. I have a 10Mb/s 4ms internet line, the server is quite appropriate, and it's not uncommon to have a several seconds hang before the wysiwyg editor's javascript finish to load and initialize.

And beside, any improvement in the text typing/input area would have to focus on semantics. And that's a subject where most of the graphic editors are worst than everything.

Re: openWYSIWYG

I can assure you that this editor is much faster than the vB one tongue

Re: openWYSIWYG

It shouldn't be difficult, I have to redesign and recolour the buttons and the location and  punbb will have something similar for the end-user interface

adding stuff to bbcode is not that hard

but hmm I dislike it!
It depends on the browser to generate the html making the output browser depended, and hard to use. Writing a parser for it is nearly imposible as you would need to check every browser and on top of that browser updates could mess up the parser.
But on the other hand that's probebly what makes this one load so fast ....

IE6/7 Out :: <STRONG>Lol</STRONG>
FF2 Out :: <span style="font-weight: bold;">Lol</span>

All these buttons are doing what they promise and I doesn't matter if IE or FF, so a GUI Style for the buttons, a relocating and it looks like a word editor. Example when you double click a word or a sentence or a paragraph the function will do the bb-coding for you, even two or more of the codes for one word. What a "standard" forum User would like to see is that the bbcode tags are invisible when editing this text, that could be a bit more sophisticated to do.

Re: openWYSIWYG

Re: openWYSIWYG

There's a wysiwyg BBCode plugin for phpBB:

Don't see why that shouldn't be portable to PunBB wink
