Topic: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

Just according to your personal experience.

First, I will mention those CMSes I'm not going to use:
Puntal(too much french within the sourcecode, it's hard to edit(even tough sounds better than english))
Joomla(too much bloat, this is seriously the worst CMS I've tried so far)

Second, I like Drupal and I would like to use it as a CMS with PunBB.. but that's not possible.

So, what other great alternatives are there, what works best with PunBB except those I mentioned?

Re: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

What works best is what works best for you.

I like lean and mean, so I look at CMS's that have small code bases that just do what I need from them. That doesn't leave me with many choices but that's my own personal preference. Others want more bells and whistles, so they go towards Joomla!, Drupal, etc.

Rather than get into a what CMS is better discussion, let's talk about the future of PunBB. After 1.3 comes out, extensions will make it very simple to use PunBB for many things within the scope of your site. Want to use the forum for commenting, we'll have you covered. Want to authenticate against PunBB, that's also in the cards. Want to make the forum look like your site, Paul is making this possible.

I'm very excited about the future, the possibilities are doable.

Re: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

I like Textpattern myself. Still lack a few things, but the frontend is very clean, fast, neat. And there's a lot of people using TXP and PunBB, so there will be move toward a clean integration (read: gateway, integration per se is a pain in the...bottom part, as you have to hack your way through the code).

It's atleast a few months or a half year before 1.3 comes out, but I need a CMS before that.

Both miniportal and textpattern looks good, I will probably go for textpattern since I then can keep my "/forum" path and need a powerfull wiki.

Re: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

I'm looking for a good CMS solution as well.   At times I'm concerned that PunBB and some of the main CMS's (bloated as they might be) don't play nice together.   I'm fighting not to use SMF, but it is hard when it seems that SMF plays nice with most of the main CMS's.

I'm planning to start with PunBB for a new project and hope that I can tie in a CMS down the road.  I hope I don't paint myself into a corner with compatibility issues.

Q

You continue to ask that, yet you still refrain from explaining what an "sNews mod" ought to do. Please elaborate on specifically what you want, and maybe you'll get some help.

Looking for a certain modification for your forum? Please take a look here before posting.

Re: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

ok a way of creating a blog system so that it can be added to punbb.
if you know what snews does then take that function and design a mod for it.

the snews simple work like the main.tpl.
by simply placing the <tag> where you want the information to be displayed.
the admin functions would be a great add to the pun_admin
for articles and upkeep.

What is sNews?
sNews is a completly free PHP and MySQL driven tool for publishing and maintaining news articles on a website. Integrating sNews into your existing design is simple, but you could also use sNews on it's own, as a simple Content Management System. Consisting of only one file, sNews is extremely lightweight, very easy to install, and easy to use via a simple web interface.

On a side note, Luka makes one of the nicest templates around.

Re: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

Has anyone tried CMSmadeSimple? I really like this CMS. Please reply if you have this running.

They have a module to integrate punBB at http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/punbb/

Best regards,
overhaul

Re: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

I've recently started using TYPOlight and really like it. Aside from the huge emphasis on being accessible and compliant, there are some cool things being implemented such as mooTools.

Take a look at the demo.

It's definately simple and powerful from an admin perspective.

Re: What bloat-free CMS works best with PunBB?

emergent, TYPO is the grandaddy of CMS systems, their light version is an answer to user's complaints that it was too huge and difficult to deal with.

quaker, luka makes designs in the same spirit as sNews, light and fast.
