Just change Base URL in the Options screen.

i did so it is now ***deleted*** doesn't load up. only /forum works even though it is now /forums in the admin panel (Base URL)

Rename the forum folder to forums and then change the base url as hcgtv said.

that worked but i had to do it the other way round which is change the base url then rename the forum folder.

Changing Base URL in Options "doesn't take" whatever I do. It's really frustrating. Even changing it in the database didn't help. The weird "forums" trick didn't do anything either.
Why is this such a problem?!
I build a site in a test folder (crappywebsite.com/aaaaa/forum) and now want to move it to the main URL (mainurl.com/forum). That shouldn't be impossible.
Edit:
OK, editing it in cache/cache_config.php finally did the trick. But that's just silly! Gotta remember next time I want to edit basic setting I have to go to the cache file first...

Setting it in the admin panel should automatically update the cache
