I know connorhd has one built in on http://mypunbb.com. Can someone enlighten me?

I know this is an old thread, but if you want an editor for .tpl files or things like .php or even .asp etc, download Araneae (it's a free program) & open the files with that. 

It's a bit like notepad to use but with more features specifically for editing & creating web files.

That's what i use for editing .tpl, CSS files & doing the PHP coding changes in forum mods & i've never had any problems.

Probably because there is code in it specific to a setup which allows multiple forums with one set of files.
Just use the File Editor plugin
