Topic: I am a beginner using Godaddy & need help

I have uploaded all the files via FTP to a folder called "myforums" in the root directory.

I have created a database in GoDaddy and it says it is "Setup".

When I go through the install, I type all the info in and then I click "Start Install"... when I do this, it goes to a Safari error page that says this:

Safari can?t open the page.
Safari can?t open the page ?http://www.brianandbrooke.com/myforums/install.php?. The error was: ?lost network connection? (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

If I leave the Database Server Hostname as "localhost", I get this error message:

An error occured on line 55 in file /home/brianand/public_html/myforums/include/dblayer/mysqli.php.

PunBB reported: Unable to connect to MySQL and select database. MySQL reported: Access denied for user 'catch2205'@'localhost' (using password: YES)


Can anyone please help me?

That sounds like a Safari issue or a server issue rather than a PunBB issue

Try a different browser (say, Firefox) and see if you get the same error?

catch did u go in ur cpanel with godaddy and create the db?
that what it looks like. remember to copy the information down.

db username
db name
db password
db locations.
i dont think that godaddy uses localhost.

they have sometype of secure server running
you can call them and they can talk you threw the setup and configuration of the db area.

yes, i did all of that and typed the info into the punbb install page.

i also get error message with firefox.

no spaces at the top
start line 1 with <?php

I've just implemented punBB using a Mac and Safari.  All went fine.
Sometimes, if you've copied text from a browser (perhaps to construct your config file) Safari adds some strange characters which can stop your PHP Script dead.
Check for any strange characters in the text, remove them and try again.
