Topic: Single Sign On to multiple forums

Hi Guys,

I've got 4 separate forums I'm setting up that are all about different topics but a very related field.

What I'm trying to do is have a single page where someone can go and sign up and once done they will have an account on all 4 of the forums.

Further on from that I'd like to use that "user system" as a basis for expansion later when I add more features (blogs, gallerys etc).

The 4 forums are all on separate domains  i.e site1.com, site2.com, site3.com and site4.com and the register page is on another site mainsite.com.

Ideally I'd like them to be logged into all 4 forums when they log into one of them (as there is some overlap between them) but as I understand it there are some issues with the cookies etc there.

I'm no PHP genius by any measure but I'm not a complete newb either and I'm happy to work out the nuts and bolts just looking for some guidance in the right direction and to find out if what I'm after is at all possible.

I can think of a couple of ways the problem might be approached just interested in what those who know think.

You mean something like the TypeKey service?:

It may provide some useful clues about how to code something similar.

Or you could just use the TypeKey service per se, I guess, and integrate it into the punBBs register/login process.
