Topic: questions about punbb

i may download punbb but i have a few quetions.
1. How exactly does it work?
Do i have to install like tons of files into a forum?

2.What mods are available?
I am very happy with mods being made on IF and I wanted a phpBB forum but they do not offer the ability to add your own mods too your forum. Does this allow you too actually add your own mods too a php forum or something? please reply i would like to know fast so i can get outta IF

EDIT: Can i also make my own mods? LIke say add tags and stuff like that? Make different stuff like hide hacks referal systems etc. etc.

Of course you can make your own mods but keep in mind that, one day, with v1.3 mods will have no purposes since it will be introduced an extension system. Search the forums for more informations.

to install punbb you should only have to make a database and upload the files to a webserver.
then run the install files and it sets up the database and you make a config.php file and upload that.

then you can make your mods or download and install other mods.

other than that version 1.3 which no one knows when it will be out nor any possible ETA, you shouldnt have much to worry about - but version 1.3 of punbb will have a new system for mods which looks like it will be alot easier to impliment mods instead of doing what we do now and editing lots of files (mabe i got it wrong).

so basically i have to run off of a webserver..... that stinks are there any good free ones? the one i have that is free is only 5 gigs, i know that is a lot but i have other sites to run off of it so if there are any free good webservers plz tell me thanks in advance ^^

It's not that i am too lazy to find hosting, i just dont know what everyone is talking about...I have a host, but i am limited too 5 gigs...if there was a way for me to use freewebs as the main host and the file goes around to different hosts and finds files and stuff then i can not make my own forums.... sry if i was unclear but that is the problem right there i cant pay for hosting and there is no host that is free that will give you unlimited storage.(that i know of)

those links are FTP applications. they will connect you to your webserver to upload and download via the ftp application.

honestly i dont think you can even make your own mods if you dont even know about this stuff and your new? this is just a weird post. why would you need a forum if you just dont know about it?

If you have already a 5gig hosting, you don't need another one, PunBB will only use a few megs including the database

You don't, all MyPunBB is is a PunBB host. You can't upload or modify files.

You don't, all MyPunBB is is a PunBB host. You can't upload or modify files.

Yes, if your host counts database size in your allocated space then posts will take up space, but in the range of bytes or kilobytes. You have nothing to worry about with 5 gigs.

Does the host you have support PHP and a database system?

No, it's very, very, very, very doubtful.

If you get to the unlikely point that you need more, then you can always buy more space.
