>> I'm sorry, but nothing tonight. It's just too much work and I don't want to half-ass it.

My gawd man. Take your time. No sense in killing yourself to get it out the door. I'm sure it will come out when it's ready.

Hm.. must have messed something up here. I get the controls ok but when I go to move a post I land on a blank screen. No errors - just a blank screen. Suggestions?

v1.2.10

Got the newsletter and updated using the diff file today. Thanks!

I'd really, really, really like to have this functionality. I modified an ealier ver of Pun to do this but lost the mod when I upgraded to 1.2.7. Rickard, if you don't want to make a standard offering, what about building an Admin plugin?

That did it. Thank you.

re: plugins not mods

Ya. I realized that right after I submitted the post.

I'll try that. It just bothers me that the upgrade didn't take or messed up the install.

Version Changer
User management

Those are the only mods I've added.

I've recently upgraded to the v1.2.8 and just noticed that my forum registration page hangs after the user submits it. It acts like the form actually submitted but all I see is a white screen.  A nudge in the right direction would be helpful.

TIA!

So are they

Ave, Min, Max

or

1Min Ave, 5Min Ave, 15Min Ave

I've applied the latest upgrade using the diff files and noted the version didn't change. I changed it in the db config table. It still says 1.2.7. Either I haven't found the right place to make the changes or I just need to wait a bit for my server cache to refresh. Please advise. TIA. Gregg

Danke!

I've upgraded my forum to the latest version. The hacker deleted a couple of forums. I just restored the database and now have my forums back but now the database is no longer v1.2.7 compliant. In fact the last version was 1.2.5.

Do I run the 12_to_126_update.php and then 12_to_127_update.php or ??

>> just the way the Inet is

Understood - I know there are no absolutes. smile Your answer is what I was looking for - that as far as we know the latest upgrade fixed the known holes.

I've downloaded and installed v1.2.7

The changelog indicates a few vulnerabilities were fixed. Are we reasonably sure that this latest version is tight without the need to add the security mods posted earlier in this thread?

DOH! - typo in the filename - worked fine.

Hola,
I've uploaded the files for 1.2.7. Copied the update file 12_to_127.php to the root and attempt to run it. The screen flashes and I find myself back at the same screen. A quick look in admin and it still says I'm running 1.2.6.

Damn, too many forums to keep up with. That newsletter ought to help Rickard - thanks!

Hacked just yesterday - lost 2 forums. Have upgraded to 1.2.6 (yeah I know...), and applied the changes for checking during the registration process as well as the Admin security Mod supplied by Tobi. I've also added an htaccess file to my Punbb install which blocks anyone from the IP block of 81.214.0.0 from even getting access to my site. Had to do the same for a block in Germany - 84.165.0.0.

Have I missed something that needs/should be changed to protect my forums?

You say you need an email notification to tell you that you have a PM.  Here's a suggestion: put the message in the email - you're checking your email anyway, why not receive the message at the same time?  Then you don't need the PM because you're already using email.

I didn't say I need it. I said I prefer it! smile It's personal choice. My previous message explains why.

focus people

Sorry for going OT.

Yes, but what I was trying to get at was what good the PM function did in that case. Wouldn't it have been better to get the message directly in your inbox?

Not necessarily. I'd rather go the Board in most cases because if it comes to my inbox I'm likely to read it and put off responding where as if I'm at the Board reading it, a response is only one click away.

>> You have to agree with talonhawk that e-mail notification of new private messages is silly?

I'm sorry but I totally disagree. A private messaging system that notifies me when I get a private message is a great tool. For example, perhaps I've sent a PM to someone to initiate a conversation on some topic. I run my own business so I can't sit there and wait. I'm off doing my work. But I check my email regularly - it's part of my job. So when I see that email from the Board telling me I've got a PM I know the person has repsonded. And I can then make time to go read it.

Also, a PM system isn't just about convenience, it's also about creating stickyness for the forum. And stickyness is good. People have to come back to the forum to get their messages. We all want our members to participate and giving them reasons like having private messages to read is as good as any other reason - if not better.

In fact, I participate on another forum where we call it stickymail. It's a highly valued addition to the board. For those of us who participate there often (I'm a mod) it's a great way to communicate about things we don't necessarily want in public.

And PM is a great way to remain anonymous if need be. Private messaging is a great way for us to communicate in private without revealing our contact info. People can converse in private without revealing an email address or personal name if they want.

Anyway. My 2p. wink

Just stopped in after a tremendously busy fall and holiday season. Noted your contrib and wanted to say "Thank You!". Mucho appreciated! smile

For the bots that DO follow the rules you should use:

<meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX,FOLLOW" />

which will tell the bots not to index the current page but to follow the links on the page to other pages.

For those bots that don't play nice I ban them using htaccess.

Re: why? I don't need my bandwidth being eaten up by a rogue bot, email harvester, website whacker, or some wannabe hacker chewing through the pages on my forum.

Hoo boy - egg on my face.

I didn't even think to try clicking the link because it was a fake URL to begin with. I should have realized it would point to the profile.

My apologies.
