Has anyone tried implementing an Invisiban-type scheme into PunBB, whereby only a troll can see their posts, but no other users can?

Ken

Hello all,

I have installed a copy of the latest release of PunBB here: http://www.clintonmass.com/dev/punbb/

My current install is here: http://www.clintonmass.com/forum/

In an attempt to avoid having to rush to do an upgrade, I have decided to go this route of installing in a separate directory, making my tweaks (mostly to the CSS), then moving to the live directory, as discussed earlier here.

My expectation was that I would see all of my current content with this new installation, as I am telling it to use the same database. I was prompted during the install to provide a database prefix, so I could run multiple copies of PunBB with the same database. I have done this, but I still can't see the content. However, when I log in as admin, the correct database is listed with a size of 28.11 MB.

So I'm a bit confused. It looks like the new install sees the correct database, but isn't displaying it's content.

Suggestions?

Thanks...

I am currently running a forum with PunBB 1.2.6. I would like to upgrade to the latest version, and I was thinking...

1. Install a fresh copy of PunBB in a new directory on my server, using my current database info.
2. Make my tweaks (mostly to the CSS).
3. Once everything is working properly and looks the way I want it to, move the installation manually to the directory I am currently using for the live forums.

Is there a danger in this? Am I nuts? Am I asking for trouble running two separate installs? What I am trying to avoid is having to take the current board down, rush to do the upgrade, and get the new one up. I'd like to take my time due to the fact that I am currently running such an old version.

Advice? Thanks...
