wildleaf, I was thinking the same thing - but I found out that "sent" actually means saved sent messages.  i.e. if you checkbox "save message" when you send it, then it'll appear there.  otherwise it won't.

Its not really in the same league as punBB

Could be the other way round... depends which way you look at it.

I should say that I'm still using punbb and probably will be for a while yet.  It's great! big_smile

I've got everything I need through mods.... the only thing that bothers me is that when 1.2 comes out, I might have to reinstall all the mods again.

Just wondering if anyone has tried out myBB and how it compares to punBB?

I think the attraction is that while not being as bloated as phpbb etc, it's got all the features you would ever need right from the start (i.e. you don't have to mod it to bits)...

Not sure what punbb is doing on a CMS site, since it doesn't really integrate with any CMS yet...

Why exactly would someone want a PhpBB lookalike style?

Oh it works better too if you change the TABLE.punmain border to #006699 ...

I did it for my previous site design - just place a 800px table around punbb...

Funny how the oxygen stylesheet can be modified slightly to resemble phpBB!

Oh I also created an image upload mod which up loads an image into a specific directory and inserts the bbcode/url in to the message.

Feel free to test.

If you are going to do that you might as well go the whole way and make it a quick login box like IPB and vBulletin use. As for being a good idea for PunBB, probably not, but it is a good idea for a mod. I'm surprised there is no mod for this already.

Yeah, I'd like to be able to tell my guests that they can post as guests (some might think that they can't post unless registered and not bother) but if they register, they have access to additional features...

That quick login box integration is a great suggestion -- any takers for putting out a mod? big_smile

The forum should then grow naturally.

I want it now!!! Haha, just kidding... big_smile

I guess patience is a virtue.

Any other tips?

I notice that some sites are nothing but a forum (i.e. have no news, articles, reviews, etc. - just a forum on a specific topic.).  How do those grow then?

This site will rank the biggest punbb boards, is that correct?  How about the most active?  Some boards may be just starting out, but may have heaps of active discussions...

Whereas some boards may be huge (perhaps ported over from and old board), but is dead...

Hi all,

Need help!  Starting a new site can be hard.  Especially for a "newbie" like me.

I've "officially" launched my site yesterday (well it's been milling around for about a month), and to try to entice people to participate in the forums, I've put out some prizes and giveaways.

However, about 36 hours have passed, and about 4 or 5 new people have joined, and only 1 (new) really active poster.

I wonder if anyone has any tips or suggestions on increasing forum participation and activity?  Any ideas on what else can I do?  I know there must be alot of people here who can share experiences...

Thanks in advance,
Jules

Hey I was just wondering if there's a way grant guests permission to use the email system?

Instead of installing a separate form mailing script, I thought I should just use the perfectly good one that punbb provides..

Hi... just wondering if this feature was available, and if not, whether people think this is a good idea?

Would be good to have an announcement box (just like the normal one) but only shows up for guests, with a configurable message.

So for example you could display to all your guests:

"Hello guest, you are not logged in.  If you are already a member, log in here.  If not, please sign up here!  As a member, you will have access to additional functions such as blah blah... Registration is easy, and we do not spam you blah blah."

or if you want to be more annoying

" blah blah blah blah marketing spiel... this message is not displayed to registered members... click here for easy registration".

What do you think?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to inform you that we're officially launching Shuttertalk, and there are prizes and giveaways to be won!  Check it out!

http://www.shuttertalk.com

Shuttertalk is powered by the awesome PunBB 1.1.4 + mods.... great job, Rickard!

Thanks pgregg and crissipos,

I've fixed the error with the ORDER by (line 266), and have uploaded the new file to my site.

Cheers,
Julian

Hey Crissipos,

The idea is to create your page layout, and then "call" this externnews script where you want the news to appear in your page.

The script outputs <div> tags with css classes as described in the first post, so you'll need to define your style sheet entries to format the headings, text, etc.  For example, here's what I use:

.newssection  {
    border-color: solid #000000;
    border-width: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
}

.newsdateheader  {
    color: #FFFFFF;
    font-size: 12pt;
    font-weight: bold;
    background-color: #CCCC99;
    padding: 5px;
    margin-bottom: 2px;
}

.newsheading  {
    font-size: 12pt;
    font-weight: bold;
    padding-left: 10px;
}

.newstagline  {
    color: #333333;
    font-size: 8pt;
    padding-bottom: 10px;
    padding-left: 10px;
}

.newstext  {
    font-size: 10pt;
    padding-left: 10px;
}

Hope that comes across ok... let me know if you need more info.

Regards,
Julian

I tend to agree with Rickard - the attraction to punbb is that it's meant to be lightweight, fast and simple.  You have to draw the line somewhere in terms of features vs efficiency - if you want features, then perhaps phpbb or vbulletin or invision is better suited to your needs...

I've got no problems with the way it works now... (well give or take a few mods) smile

Hey Paul (pgregg) big_smile

Yeah I spotted that one.  Sounds interesting!  I'll look into it.

Jules

Hey Paul,

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.  I'll try your stuff out tonight and will update the distribution files.

I visited your site by the way... looks really good!
