Spent a lot of time and had some great input from others.
It will depend on the objectives of the "site" pun is used on. If it is high traffic, syndicaiton may not be a high priority... other than as a front page summary... if it is used for dialogue especially on an internal net then it is a different story.
Anyhow, the rss.php script found on the board through using "rss syndication" as a search term brings up a file that is not part of core for punBB. So, that is where the confusion is. Until there is an alternative Justine, I would suggest that you focus on extern.php.
I think it is about simplicity. Last night I spent a fair bit of time linking RSSOwl and the extern.php. There is no doubt that it is much more flexible and for boards that have large volumes it helps cut down on a lot of unwanted feeds. Unless I am missing something (which is possible since they could use my head for a tank trap when it comes to coding) getting the right url feed is very difficult. With the rss.php feed in phpBB it is a simple link.
That being said, the rss.php file that we were working on last night still is buggy. The parsing failure began to cascade .... started with line 90 and now it is 96 or something like that... I have not seen a line so long in a php file before.... I suspect it is over 256 characters... or something like that...I had to delete some segments to get notepad2 to see the end of the line, and then paste back in.
Later today I will try to work on it and get back to the board before I leave tonight.
really cool.... especially when you have notepad2.... what a quick fix.... thank you
Well the first thing now is to tear it apart and get punBB in. I thought that I had it baked
I saw NuPusi for the first time tonight. It is amazing that one can work at something ang then one day the same thing pops up. Anyhow, it is for intranets and for Private Networks and runs on WAMP... The ZedFiles was the first project... has all of the library... it all started because we are a charity and this was a way to get good technology into the hands of folks that do not have hi-speed. If you have the zedfiles then you could pick something like Mambo and run it as a whole portal or whatever.... the major thing is that everything is preconfigured so you just frag and drop from the cd and start the services.
Email me off line and we can work out getting you a complete cd.
I really appreciate your help... now I need to figure out which rss file to use... Smartys fix really did fix it.
This is pretty amazing. The source that I had found on the board searching rss feed was:

which was really frustrating me. I still went ahead and recommended punBB on our www.zedfiles.com site as one of the two forums for our complulation.
If this works it is good news... the less than good news is that I willl have to tear the whole thing apart since it was launched yesterday... but it would be worth it. Did you have time to see the site????
no with rss.php... should I be linking to extern, php?
simply to set up an rss feed that can be linked to by RSSOwl. phpBB has a file that when placed in the root provides the feed. When I try to use the script that is on this board and save it etc. I can not get it to run.... there seems to be an error on lin 90 which is a series of symbols.
I have put together a suite of applicaitons that require rss feeds. PunBB is perfect for the suite but I can not find a way to get the feed to work. I am using phpBB instead... not my first choice... but after lurking this board for many months hoping for a solution, it does not seem to come up.
When I run the file I get a parse error on line 90. Is there anyone working on rss for PunBB? Any help would be appreciated. There is a demo of the suite at www.backchannel.ca.
Thanks
