Unless an update is incredibly new and there are known serious bugs, you should generally always go with the newer version.
It's likely got new features and improvements, otherwise why would it have been released?

Use Google Analytics.
I also use awstats, but just cos it came with our hosting.

I just use AVG free, but have been looking for a new AV/malware tool, useful thread.
Will check some of these out.
Last time I tried kaspersky it sucked but it's been a few years so I'll try it again.
