I know it can be done, but I really have no idea how. What would someone have to do to install a clean copy on punbb in a database that is already running wordpress? Are there any down sides to doing this?

Can you point me in the direction to loading it from the server directly? I can't seem to find any information on how to do it.

Nope, I don't have shell access... this is the other error:

"There is a chance that you may have found a bug in the SQL parser. Please examine your query closely, and check that the quotes are correct and not mis-matched. Other possible failure causes may be that you are uploading a file with binary outside of a quoted text area. You can also try your query on the MySQL command line interface. The MySQL server error output below, if there is any, may also help you in diagnosing the problem. If you still have problems or if the parser fails where the command line interface succeeds, please reduce your SQL query input to the single query that causes problems, and submit a bug report with the data chunk in the CUT section below:

I have a six month old backup that I am trying to restore (5MB) and it just doesn't want to work. I am installing this on a new server on a different domain.

The database plugin just gives me this:

"No file was uploaed or the upload failed, the database was not restored"

and phpmyadmin just gives me about 20 different errors.... is there something simple that I am missing?

I had a forum that was 3 years old that I took down a few months ago. It had almost 20000 posts and I have had a lot of people emailing me asking if they could get old posts back.

Without setting up another forum and using an old database backup, it there a way to post an .html archive of an old punbb forum? I really don't want to set up another forum for this... I just need the posts up some where for people to read.

It sounds good enough for me. My current hosting (Illusionfxnet) is $25 a year, and I'm getting 550mb space, 20gb bandwidth and 10 MySQL databases. But I'm realizing that it's still too much bandwidth and space for my needs, thinking about switching to something like nearlyfreespeech.net, where you pay per gb of bandwidth / mb of space.

Anyways, yeah. One thing that annoys me, is that there are a lot of really cheap hosts out there nowadays. But there's no decent way to distinguish between them. They all promise 99.9% uptime, etcetera. But after five months, I've already had quite enough downtime to be somewhat dissatisfied with my current provider. If I were you, I'd stress the speed and uptime of the hosting. Unless it's not speedy or up alot. wink

I've been hearing some good things about nearlyfreespeech.net... I wonder how many sites they host?

The only reason I am even offering the free hosting is that some of the pay per post members dont have time to post on the forum anymore and asked for a paying alternative... As far as speed and uptime, I probably should post something about that. We have Dual Xeon 2.66GHz servers and 99.9% uptime this year. Stats: http://florida.websitepulse.net/uptime/G2808I9161.html

Hey guys,

I run a hosting site (since late 2001) and it has almost always been free hosting. There were a few times when we offered special paid accounts, but have not done so in more than 2 years. I just released some new paid hosting accounts (targeted towards people looking for a low budget host) and was looking for some feedback on the prices.

The basic plan is (for $20 a year):

- 250 MB of Space
- 4 Gigabytes Data Transfer
- 5 MySQL Databases
- 3 Addon Domains

Is that something people would consider a "budget host"?

If you guys could review my plans.... hell review my whole site for that matter, that would be groovy. The site is in my sig. ( www.subnixus.com )

p.s.

We really need a review forum for things other than punBB forums wink

Okay, I have to move servers this weekend and have a question... what is the best way to move my forum? I run 1.2.4 right now and it has a lot of addons.... should I install a new copy of 1.2.4 on the new server and then overwrite the files with my modded ones and then use the database plugin to upload my database from the old forum to the new one?

Something like this would be great:

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph … mp;start=0

Is it possible to have "new" post icons and "old" post icons on the main page of the forum that are different from the ones marking the threads inside the forum? I can't seem to figure it out, yet I have seen people do it.

Maybe someone can help me with this... I use CodeXP's mod so that I can have different styles with different headers... style1_main.tpl, style2_main.tpl, etc...

Well, I have one style that is "ad-free", meaning no google adsense shows up on the forum... is there a way that I can restrict only certain members from having access to this theme?

If you want to see what I mean, the site is here: http://www.subnixus.com/forums/index.php

Thanks

http://www.subnixus.com/forums/index.php <- That's how big.... and about 1-2 gigs a month.

Is there a way to list the users who have logged in 'today'? I would like to put this list under the 'currently active' list.

Anyone?

I'm trying to get them to show in the quick reply box, but the lines we are supposed to change are not found in my version. 1.2.4

edit: Nevermind. I am retarded.

This may be an odd question, but I have seen some forums that some how use newsgroups to add to their forum. Everytime a new post is made in a newsgroup it shows up as a new post on the forum... does anyone have any idea how this is done?

How would I change the "You have new messages"... to a different color?

Thanks smile I forgot about the plugin.

Quick question... I just finished the manual upgrade using the hdiff files for 1.2.2 > 1.2.4

Everything seems to work fine, but in the admin. controls, when I "check for upgrade". It says that there is a newer version of punBB. Is this normal? Is there something else I should change? Thanks.

Okay... I figured this out. I was a IPB conversion.... it had the same problem as the phpBB conversion script:

update #__users set group_id = 3 where id = 1

Me too.

Okay... last one.

www.subnixus.com/forums

There is also a "thin" non fullscreen version that users can choose.

Okay... not sure what the problem is, but I run www.subnixus.com/forums and I have a new section of the forum for adults only. For legal reasons people MUST be registered and login to view this part of the forum. However, when I uncheck all of the "guest" boxes in the permission area for that part of the forum, guests are still allowed to enter, view and post. What am I doing wrong here?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question...

But right now I am running version PunBB 1.2.2 - I want to upgrade to 1.2.4, but I have a lot of mods that I dont want to overwrite. So I am going to manually do the changes with the information from the Hdiff file.... My question is this:

Do I first need to follow the changes from 1.2.2 > 1.2.3? Or can I just skip straight to the Hdiff file for 1.2.4? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I just dont want to do any work that doesnt need to be done.

Thanks
