I'm running PunBB 1.3.4 and MySQL Improved 5.0.95 and I notice that on this very low traffic forum that the database is much larger than any of my other databases. There are not very many posts, yet the "posts" table is 48.1MB for only 112 records.

What could be causing this and what can I do to fix it?

Two other tables are very large. Search_matches is 48MB with 12,448 records. Also "search_words" is 14MB with 10,040 records. What are those tables for anyway?

I've downloaded the top file which is the only one that seems to provide all the directories. I've saved to desktop, uploaded to the forums folder, and nothing is showing in the extensions of 1.3.5 and nothing's changed to the registration process... what could I have done wrong?
Thanks appreciate you do this for no money!

Did you put it in /extensions/fancy_stop_spam?

Alternatively, could you maybe advice other solution? I tried several unofficial extensions and mods like "image upload", but they were either outdated or just didn't want to work.

You can host the pictures elsewhere. I think that's better anyway. Here is an example:

With dialup accounts bandwidth is a problem, but even on a slow connection like mine, simply keeping the images to a reasonable size, such as used for web pages, allows for reasonably fast loading. This page with 6 pictures is not too slow in my opinion.

I'd love to, but I see it is only for the very rich.

plis i need help with spam bot too!!! StopForumSpam is dont work!!! sad

Perhaps you too need to turn it on.

Go to  » Administration  » Settings  » Features
and scroll down to "Settings for Fancy Stop SPAM". In my case I have the following checked:

Register form: Enable honeypot protection; Enable timeout protection
Post form: Enable honeypot protection

If it is not really important the people who are allowed to read the post be aware of it, then you can just make the relevant people part of a group. Only members of that group will be able to see posts in that forum.

» Administration  » Start  » Forums  » Edit forum

Even if you use the News extension, only group(s) with permissions will be able to see that post.

I don't need it right now, but a Google Adsense extension sounds like something that might be useful to a lot of people.

You can just make a forum and uncheck "Guests _ Read forum". Then someone has to log in to view it. Call it "members area" or "tutorials" or something.  If you like you can make separate html pages and post links. Use your imagination, there are lots of ways. smile Go here:

Administration  » Start  » Forums  » Edit forum

I've been using it for a month now and have not had a single spam since. I had 100 per day before.

how can if fix that

Do you mean that the extension is broken, or did you not know it was one?
It's called "Private Messaging".  Administration  » Extensions  » Manage extensions  - click install.

Open the CSS in a text editor and search for the colour you want to replace. If it occurs in several places, then you can use something like the Firefox "web developer" plugin. It will tell you a lot about where stuff is.

BTW, if you want to test that you have the right place, just put in #ff0000 (bright red) and check it. Just remember what you're replacing so you can put it back if it's not the right one. smile

Pictures can also be shown using attachments. Since Dimkalinux fixed it a couple of weeks ago, it works really well. Example here:

It's been over a week now and I have not had one single spam or bot registration. This software really works.

Perhaps it was all the same bot that was responsible for the 100 per day spam registrations, I do not know. I disabled the capcha and e-mail confirmation and can easily re-enable those if I get a problem in the future. For now things are good, and it is nice that the system is completely transparent.

Thanks again dimkalinux.

I would just use the default scheme. I've done that on all the forums I've installed and can't see any reason to do otherwise.

where is extra directory I can't find it.

I just had a thorough look. There isn't one.

I decided I liked the idea so much that I put in a request for "automatic greeting". You can see my post here: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/post/139519/#p139519

Automatic greeting sent to new member upon registration. Both e-mail and PM (or choice) would be nice.

There was also a question (request) about it here:
http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … extension/

I like the idea too, but haven't seen such a thing yet. Something similar, but not quite the same, was mentioned by KeyDog here:
http://punbb.informer.com/forums/post/134229/#p134229

Perhaps that's what you saw.

I think the new spam blocker that dimkalinux wrote will do that - at least on the first post. Check out this thread: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … am-system/

You might like it anyway. I just installed it and it works really well. I went from about 100 down to 0 spam registrations per day. At least for now I can disable e-mail verification and any other spam blocking.

Did you PM Slavok? I think that would be a first step. The invitation was posted here: http://punbb.informer.com/forums/post/139252/#p139252 and I think that does give a good idea.

A fork already did happen and that is FluxBB, as you mention. As for Informer's role, I don't know what it really is, and don't think it matters to most people, but I know it does to some. For me, all I need to know is that PunBB is open source and that some developers are communicative and have what I consider is the right idea.

I'm happy with the way things are, and enjoy using the software as it stands. Of course there are always a few bugs and a couple of things which could be added, but when there is talk of development I always cringe. My fear is that features will be added (I hate "features" in all software) and we will see other fashion items creeping into the program. Hopefully this will not be the case here.

The community could use a bit more interaction though. There must be a lot of users out there who benefit from this software and it would be nice if they would drop by the forum from time to time and help answer questions. Certainly seeing only a couple of posts per day can be depressing.

I don't have a clear answer for you, but you can put your own content in /forumroot/include/user. Perhaps you need to put a line in /forumroot/include/template/main.tpl

Check out this thread:
http://punbb.informer.com/forums/topic/ … -template/

I've had it on for about 12 hours now and not one single spam yet. That's pretty good! I should have had about 50 unverified users by now. I may even be able to disable the e-mail verification if this is going to be that good. smile

(115 replies, posted in Supported extensions)

OK, that's done. I'll report back on how it goes.

One thing though, that site is on shared hosting and there does not seem to be any error logs available to me. I'm referring to:

5) Check (ones in week) webserver error log for errors from extension.

Also, there is already one spam (unverified) registration now. Presumably that came in while the settings were off. It was good to see that now though, because then I know that there is still spam (like in last week) to be blocked. I'll delete that one now (4am) and if there are none tomorrow then your plugin will definately be good.

ltr, Ole

I looking in page source and it dont contents antispam fields.

Yes, I did not check any of the boxes. The default is that they are all unchecked.

(115 replies, posted in Supported extensions)

OK, so I don't check anything then.

I've set "delete unverified users" to 24 hours and also disabled the capcha. So we're on.

OK, I've installed the extension. Now I am looking at:

Settings for Fancy Stop SPAM
Register form
   Enable honeypot protection
   Enable timeout protection
   Enable timezone protection (UTC−12:00)
Login form
   Enable honeypot protection
Post form
   Enable honeypot protection
Other methods
   Check identical posts
Links in 1st message
Max allowed links in first message. 0 - disable checking.
Links in 1st guest message
Max allowed links in message. 0 - disable checking.

but I don't know what would be intelligent choices.
