I need to make the user profile accessible for google i.e. guests.
I have the latest version and antispam (maybe it is in there somewhere..) - I thought I saw a setting somewhere to disable/enable the profile for guests - but can t find it anymore.
Maybe it was in the older version. I upgraded a few month ago from a very old version.
How can I make the user profil accessible?

I will try my luck with phpmysqladmin . I hope I don't mess up anything. So I take it I have to edit every single thread in teh database if I wanted to reset the whole page view counter.
(the spider has mostly used only a few topics most of which are obvious while a others are not - I would have preferred a general reset..)
Could I suggest to fix this for the future? Is there a way to exclude spiders from being counted as guests - in particular their page views..
I just don't want to do this again.

Hello,
I finally managed to figure out what caused page view spikes of certain us foreign political topics. It was the spider of the Chinese/Japanese Baidu search engine.
I have banned the IP range it uses and now I am back to a few page views a day for this new forum (I had about 1000 views per day from the spider). It is a bit weird though that a spider can generate page views and count as visitors too.
My main problem now is how can reset the page views to 0 or something I can chose?
I am running the latest version.
Any help here would be amazing.

how (where) can i assign a new topic id exactly? (in the code or is it an administrator option? ok i suppose it is in the code.
i can find a posting id (pid?) that looks like this (on this page):

for this relatively simpe solution - i will try it but right now i am too busy so can t tell when. mabe somebody else wants to post if this works for newer versions too and what happens with later upgrades?

how about a feature that allows
only registered users can read topics and posts (exists..but) but geusts can still see the forum title and description.
this could motivate more new visitors to register! (i need to reach a significant number of users soon at www.neotango.info - to lower the threshold for registering..)
the current permissions settings make the forum disappear completely for guests when they are not allowed to read.
please let me know if this exists already -

just a quick post to say thanks to you guys,
everything at www.neotango.info works fine now - without any uncommenting
after rebooting there were no problems anymore. i suspect that the security updates for windows 2000 have confused the cookie settings until reboot.

ok - i check it out and post the result tomorrow (although it would bother me a little not knowing what i actually disable by uncommenting setcookies, there must be a reason for that..) - it s 4 am here, good night and thanks for the support!

so uncommenting the setcookie function would not have solved it long term - just problem isolation - right?

it works using 98SE.
i am currenlty not able to check the cookie settings with my other operating system since it is in a language i don not understand (my wifes native language).
would punbb work without setting cookies? what s the drawback? maybe other users have the same security settings as i had...
at least i know now - great help guys!!

i saw you were testing it as test. i tried too and again i have the same problem - so it must be my browser ..IE6,
oh, i remember, i have updated windows 2000 today and installed several mostly security related updates...
I will try to login from 98..
what were you using smarty?

i am experiencing the following problem with punBB 1.2.8:
after successful login (it says loggin succesfully) redirection goes to the index.php page showing that i am not logged in.
i can register new users, however, they have the same login problem then too.
i have done no changes since i created some new categories and forums. permissions on my server are all the same 755 for the folder and 644 for the files.
could it be that my webhost has done any changes? is this a bug?
any help/ideas greatly appreciated
