In IE (and possibly Firefox) my menu text ("Home | Forum | Files etc.") gets sliced in half sometimes... what css is causing this?

1.) Everything, when viewed in IE6, is centered. Don't know why, Firefox has no trouble.
2.) Removed my <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://www.xsgamedesign.com/format.css"> to see if it was causing the centering... it wasn't... put it back, background color is gone. Why? 
Fine before, now broken, makes no sense.
