Hahahah great post.
The internet is serious business I tell you.

Your first mistake is using Azareus as a bittorrent client.
Go now, uninstall it, and download utorrent

Cinema Obscura is powered by the awesomeness that is PunnBB, the copyright notice on the bottom right is just that, and does not mean this is where you ask for help downloading from CO.

Oh, and CO is not accepting new registrations, so you are screwed.
Lastly, stop using public/semi-public torrent sites as they suck.

Off to mods now - this seems to have affected the display of news topics on the front page by my punportal installation.....

Thanks - that seemed to do the trick, with one last error, which seems benign.

Error

SQL query:

INSERT INTO search_words
VALUES (
'8568', 'expos?s');

MySQL said: Documentation
#1062 - Duplicate entry 'expos' for key 1

I am sure this is not life-threatening, since it involves the search index, I rebuilt the index in the Administration module, and guess this should not negatively impact the performance of the forum.

Thanks - that did enable to "bans" table to the imported and created. However, as that was fixed, the next item on the .sql file errored out, until a ; was added at the end of the create table statement, and so on.
Is it possible during backup that all of the ";" were dropped ?

Of course now the next itme to show an error on import is "categories" - as follows :-

File: /home/virtual/site133/fst/var/www/html/lmforum/forums.php
Line: 42

PunBB reported: Unable to fetch category/forum list

Database reported: Table 'melenie_lm.categories' doesn't exist (Errno: 1146)

Do I now run down the entire .sql file, inserting a ";" after each of the create table statements ?

On replying to an existing post, debug mode reveals the following"-

File: /home/virtual/site133/fst/var/www/html/lmforum/post.php
Line: 218

PunBB reported: Unable to fetch subscription info

Database reported: Table 'melenie_lm.bans' doesn't exist (Errno: 1146)

I did have to do a re-import of my dbase the other day, after installing a mod that had a few things wrong with it. It appears the restore did not go too well.
Point me in the right direction ?

Edit - ok, so I restored the backup again with phpmyadmin, and got this message, pointing to the fact that it cannot import the ban table - do I manually insert it ? I would have tried this already, but the values required are confusing sad

Further, looking at the .sql file in notepad, it looks identical to past backups.

I think if they erased annoying posts, there would be little support for us beginners smile

Not entirely sure what you are referring to here.

I am sure this has been dealt with before in the forums, if so, apologies - I am sure it is a simple fix.

On clicking on any user profile, then on "email user", I get a blank page, and this address, with the number at the end differing depending on what user one chooses....

Thanks for any help.

I have a few mods installed, calendar, gallery, punportal, file upload, pm,

Oooh, oooh, let me !!!

Look about 1/2 way down, for "Additional menu items".
You would add something along the lines of.

Sure, umm, hey how about everybody get together to do your homework too.
This has to be a troll. If you are too lazy to find hosting, you are too lazy to have a forum.

I was messing around with the RSS Feed agregator, and mistakenly sucked down like 250 posts from Digg's RSS feed.
Oddly, the forum to which the feeds should post was not set up correctly (err, actually I deleted the forum)

The upshot is, I have 250 "latest posts" showing in my latest posts block, which lead to a bad/outdated link on my forum.

Now, test posts do not show up in the "last posts" block.

Can I reverse the effects of the 250 last posts ?

Seems like you have a growing userbase - good luck with it.

Nice.

What's the feedback been from users so far on things like usability and features?

Those that have let me know (basically the "hey what is a forum for ? crowd), have indicated that registering and posting is a hassle-free experience.
Those familiar with the forum experience have fallen in pretty easily.

Thanks for the compliments, the site really has been a lot of fun to tweak.

Wow  -what a coincidence hcgtv - glad to find a fellow Charlottean.

This started as a fun thing to see if I could do it. Bear in mind, I hadn't even seen a line of php code before I started.

I am trying to get 400+ members of the community I live in to buy into the many advantages there are in an online community.

To attract the members of the community, maybe with porn torrents.
To get Google to actually index my site since the last time on March 21 sad

Related, but off topic a bit I suppose - does anyone have some good examples of sites using the punportal mod ?

Err, thanks for pointing me towards viewtopic.php.
I had an older copy on my server, after mucking about with the file when doing the miniportal thing.

I was getting rid of the miniportal the other night and must have made a hash of the whole thing then. Fortunately the last updates did not affect viewtopic.php (according to the hdif anyway), so I should be fine with my older copy of viewtopic.php.

Thanks for the help - by the way pOWer, what did you do ?

Ok, so this a little embarrassing - I bet I have done something completely retarded.
The "post new topic" link has disappeared from my forum ?
I have logged in as Admin, and as a Member, but I cannot post .

All permissions allow posting in forums by Members and up.
I can reply to threads though.

What have I done sad

Everything looked perfect on the install, with the tests being passed.
Now that I have set up the newsfeeds, they are not pulling through.

When I click on the "cronjob" test link in the newsfeed admin page, I get this mesage :-

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: iconv() in /home/virtual/site133/fst/var/www/html/lmforum/plugins/fa_cron.php on line 50

Line 50 of fa_cron.php is

$username = iconv( $feed->get_encoding(), $lang_common['lang_encoding'], $username );

Any ideas ?

I have a sightly modded install of 1.2.15, with exisiting users , forums and posts.
I have installed Frontpage Punbb on a separate database, and in a separate directory on my host.

I have been messing around in phpmyadmin, trying to import various tables.

What are the minimum tables I can import to the new installation to preserve the forum structure, post and users ? Darn phpmyadmin, it is tough to figure out - my limited knowledge is not helping - as far as I can tell, I have to drop tables before I import them, there is no "merge" function.

It may have been posted already, but this link is pretty handy for adding code to your .htaccess to prohibit hotlinking images...

Pardon the ignoprant question, but my knowledge of php is very basic. (Only enough to install mods !)

When I update to 1.2.15 using the changefiles, of course this will wipe out most, if not all of my installed mods, right ?
What is the best way to update in order to minimise the work I hve to do to repair all of the mods ?

Update works just fine - although what am I missing here ? - I left the uploadimg_config.php untouched - yet still, users can upload files exceeding the 200 kb maximum.
Also - when logged in a a normal member with permission to upload, I tried to upload a 1.2 meg jpg to test the limits, and was prompted to download the file uploadimg.php ???!!!

To put it simply.
You can only sticky an existing post.

Is there a way to delete the uploaded files when logged in as admin ?
I see no link for this.
